I'm having a mixed reaction. On one hand, she points out that
there have been no clinical trials of bioidenticals, so there is
no direct information re their potential - helpful or harmful.
And suggests that people avoid programs like those pushed by
Suzanne Sommers. She spouts the standard line, take FDA approved
drugs only in the least amount and shortest time necessary to
help overcome severe hot flashes etc.

However. It can also be construed that she (and NAMS) is
directing consumers back into the Big Pharm fold - take only
those drugs that are manufactured by the major companies, which
have sought FDA approval for their drugs. That's always a
suspicion when NAMS is involved.

I found the comments following the article to be fascinating.
Most boil down to, "Don't even think of trying to take my
bioidenticals away from me!"

I'm sure they do, since they are the paid shills of the pharmas that make
HT.

Having taken (and paid for) both bio-identical cream and estradiol, my
experience was that the claims for bio-identical were exaggerated.
Also, the cost was many times greater than for estradiol.
Bio-identical cream costs $23 a month, estradiol about $5 a month.
They both relieve hot flashes. Neither had a great effect on sleep
problems. The cream caused my breasts to resume the fibrocystic
condition that had finally disappeared at menopause. I got
testosterone added to the cream for my sagging sex life, but the
fireworks never arrived. Nor did the promised fountain of youth. I
hate it too when Big Pharm wins, but all in all, I'd say save your
money.

Yes, I have read they act exactly like the artificial ones. The body
can't tell the difference.

From what I understand bioidentical hormones do not produce the same
negative side effects as the synthetics when used in physiological doses, of
course that doesn't apply to everyone. Some people experience side effects
no matter what.Any hormones must be used cautiously.
