Default Way OT: The cats on 11 January 2010 >^..^<

No real change. Just the daily routine of a retired disgruntled postal
worker and his 3 cats.

The oldest, Fluffy, spends a lot of time on my bed, on the heated
blanket. Perhaps too much time. I think she has never recovered from
the absence of her litter mate, Silver. She insists on 15 minutes
after I get into bed to go to sleep, and another 15 minutes when I
wake up, Plus relaxing on the heated pad next to my computer chair, so
as to be cuddled, petted, coddled, adored, and generally made welcome
in my life. But she is so old, and really starting to show it. So
old.

Well, I am getting old myself, and have to get back into a vigorous
exercise program. I let that lapse during my last 10 years at the Post
Office, working the swing shift of 3 PM - Midnight. But now I am
retired, so no more excuses. Last Friday I bought a new pair of Z-Coil
shoes, Unlike the Z-coil boots I wore for the last five years at the
Post Office, these have the coil exposed.

(The Post Office would not allow exposed Z-coil shoes, so I wore a
special Z-coil boot with a hollow heel over the spring. But this heel
was over 1 and a half inches, so the Post Office told me I was wearing
high heels. Oooooo. This after not allowing me to wear my skirt to
work. So I needed a special note from my Podiatrist to wear the Z-coil
boots.)

Today I gave the new shoes their first real test, walking the 1.9
miles from my apartment to the TLC Alano Club for the noon AA meeting.
It took me about 55 minutes, one way. I got a ride back home. During
the 55 minute walk I was able to get in both my daily Rosary and
Divine Mercy Chaplet. The weather was ideal for such a stroll. Not to
mention the sights of a busy main street in Torrance.

To top it all off, today I had my first class of chair Yoga, a mild
form of yoga especially directed towards out of shape senior citizens.
I will be at this class every Monday (except Holidays), 3:30 PM - 5
PM.

You said Fluffy was so old. How old is old? My Kathleen will be 14 this
October.

I'm *guessing* 16 - 18 for Fluffy - let's see what Harry says.

Cats often live to 16 - 20, or even 21 relatively often, so 14 is old, but
not ancient. BTW - never knew a cat named Kathleen. ;-) I had a cat named
Debbie & at first the vets' office front desk people thought *I* was Debbie.
;-)

I've taken a lot of ribbing over the years about my pets names (smile).

Kathleen has beautiful green eyes so it was obvious (to me at least)
that she was Irish and needed a name reflective of that (smile).

Two cats before her--one was Margaret (Maggie for short) and the other
Siobhan. And a dog, a German Shepherd, was Gretchen.

When my daughter was little and in charge of naming our animals we had a
Little Bit (a female dog that was part Labrador and Samoy Huskie) and a
cat named BW (he was black and white).

I think any more I just figure the pets are such a part of the family
that they need family/people names.

Kathleen is in great health. She is an indoor cat, neutered (or is it
spayed?) and declawed. While she's slowed down some, I mean she's no
kitten any more, she still races through the house, plays, follows me up
and down the basement stairs, etc.

I've wondered how long she would be with me. 14 is old, I know, but I
didn't know if it was old as in, well, you know...... The other cats we
had (Maggie and Siobhan) had short lives. They became ill and died
before they were 4 years old. BW got old but by the time he was 14 he
had what appeared to be dementia and he was very thin. Kathleen is the
opposite of him.

I'm not too sure (she was adopted), Maybe 14-16. And I am not too sure
about Pumpkin and Lucas, again both adopted.

That makes sense. :-)

So far my cats' names have been Sabina, Debbie (I didn't name her - she had
the name when I adopted her), Demelza, Herrie (short for Herriot, as in
James Herriot), & Kenya - she came with her name when adopted at age 10, so
figured it was too late to change it.

Both, sort of. ;-) For a female, the neutering is called spaying, For a
male, usually a castrated cat is just referred to as being "neutered".

Nope, just medium old. ;-)
