Default 1. May

Today is "day of work" or "labour day", a communist/socialist holliday.
Happy labour day to everyone.

Greetings
Robert

In modern times the Communists made May 1st a memorial to "Work",
but, W=fXd and E=fXd.
In pagan Europe May 1st was Beltane, the Mid-Spring festaval.
Beltane Eve, also known as Walpurgis, was a little Halloween. If you
watch the classical Dracula with Bela Lugosi you will see that Walpurgis
Night is still recognised in Transylvania. Happy night last night.
There were three other mid-seasonal festivals: Lamas, August 1st;
Samhein, November 1st; and, Imbolc, February 2nd. These are the Celtic
names for them, but, every culture had their own names for them. The
Catholics even celebrate St. Blaise day on Imbolc, February 2nd.
Catholics tried to transform pagan things into Catholic things, but, it
seemed it transformed Christian things into pagan things.
Anyway, to Hell with Work! Try to get a disability compensation
for the torment these psychiatrists are putting you through, and grab
all you can get, and take all the free time you can get. "If THEY wont
allow you a death,
THEY owe you a living."

I don't know if it would be better to work all week and have lots of money
or be totally free and get a small disability check?

Certainly, there are other festivals during the year, espcially
the change of the seasons; but, there are other odd ones like June 24th
St. John's Day; December 17th, St. Lazarus day, and November 12th,
Charlie Manson's birthday, etc.

"May First" is merely a convention.
It doesn't exsist as May First except among the agreements of mankind.

I heard yesterday or the day before that April Fools Day was so named
because when the Calendar was Changed in the 14 or 15 hundreds (16s?) to
our present day Gregorian Calendar some folks went right on celebrating
New Years on April First.

You see the conventions of mankind simply changed.

Before the self correcting Gregorian Calendar was introduced te months
could not be counted on as being seasonal.
The calendar was based nore strongly on the Lunar influence then the
solar inflence.
The Islamic calendar has no solar correctional circumstance, for
example.
Its completely Lunar based.

The Maya did the calendar smartly.

If we decided to change the convention to thirteen months instead of 12
then each month would have exactly four weeks, and the year would have
365 days.

Anybody know the name of the calendar used before it was usurped by the
Gregorian Calendar?

Of course, it's all artificial. We just had a debate of why real
estate isn't measured in cubic feet rather than square feet. It's all
how you cut the baloney.
