Default AC power troubles

I just had four ten second power outages in the last half hour.

I'm not sure if that is just from the storm slapping the overhead wires
around, or if there might be nearby neighborhoods that are without power.
Sometimes they have to cut the power to re-arrange how the power grid is
configured near places where a pole might be down, or something.

Wind is coming back up again.

Early this morning I avoided doing my laundry, but then after only minor
flickers, I went a head and did a load. So, I have to keep restarting the
dryer.

-too much bravado, I guess

All this actually makes for an interesting day.

My computer is on a UPS, so it is unphased, so far.

OOps, there goes outage number 5.

-and outage number 6

-and outage number 7

Uh-oh

Number 7 did not come back yet.

EEK!

I'm in the black.

My words come to you on battery power.

Several minutes of outage now.

My UPS is probably good for 15 minutes. Although the power indicator says
I'm now at 3 out of 5 for battery power.

Ah, well. It is time to properly shut down Windows.

Bye.

Batten down them hatches, QN.

The transformers on the poles are so configured that when a branch falls
and causes an arc or a short the power is turned off for a moment. Then
it turns back on to check if the juice will flow properly.
Then if it doesn't it turns off again....and it can repeat this process
a few times before giving up the line.
Sounds like thats what happened.

I enjoy storms, find them exhilerating.

To those who are not aware....

You leave the California coast and head back east ou go up hill.

So that will really provide sudden rain runoff.

Yes..there the Napa Valley and the Sacramento valle and the imperial
valley but still....
The bay area is taking a serious bath.

We are getting some of California's rain here in the desert.

I heard the wind gusts in California could get up to 100 mph.
