Default Adrafinil (Olmifon)

I recently purchased some Adrafinil. It is similar in structure to
Modafinil (Provigil). It is a mood-brightening, memory improving
medication that promotes wakefulness and alertness by blocking the
reuptake of norepinephrine and inhibiting GABA and stimulating
Glutamate. It's also possible that it releases some dopamine, but
studies show that taking a dopamine blocker with it does not
counteract the wakefulness of the drug, so any dopamine increase is
probably minimal. I'm going to try taking it sometime this week. I'll
let you know how it goes.

I also bought some Prazosin (Minipress) which is a alpha-adrenergic
blocker (norepinephrine blocker). It is a blood pressure medication
that blocks stress chemicals, such as Glucocorticoids. It has been
shown to help prevent some of the structural changes of schizophrenia,
since it is believes that many of the chemical and structural changes
in the brain are caused by stress and stress related chemicals. It's
possible that taking this in too high of a dose may cause your blood
pressure to drop dangerously low. I plan to take this with extreme
caution.

You might notice that the first medication (Adrafinil) increases
norepinephrine and the second medication I mentioned (Prazosin) blocks
norepinephrine. Obviously I don't plan to take these both at the same
time, as that would probably cause unwanted side effects and feel very
unpleasant. I'm not sure which one will help me. I feel tired a lot,
and stressed out a lot. Maybe the Adrafinil will make me feel more
awake? Maybe it will make me feel more stressed out and increase my
anxiety? Maybe the norepinephrine blocker will make be feel less
stressed out? Or maybe it'll just make me feel really tired and weak?
I'm not sure. I don't know how either of these drugs affect someone
with schizophrenia. So I'm going to experiment and see how I respond.
I'll keep you posted.

Default Re: Adrafinil (Olmifon)

I took a half a pill (150mg) of Adrafinil today and felt that it
definitely helped me concentrate. I went and worked out at the gym and
it's possible it gave me extra energy. I didn't feel overly
stimulated. At work tonight I felt a little aggressive and very easily
annoyed. I hate my job, so these feelings are somewhat expected. I'll
try taking it tomorrow morning and see how I do. I can't say it was a
bad experience and I can see how it may benefit me in some ways. It
was great for concentration! I was able to focus more easily at home
and at work. I'll report more when I take a full pill (300mg).

I've decided that the Adrafinil makes me overly irritable and is not
something I can continue taking. It is possible that I will take a
1/4th of a pill on days that I need a little extra boost, but for the
most part it greatly increases my stress level and makes me feel more
violent and anxious.

I'm looking forward to trying the norepinephrine blocker / blood
pressure medication that does the opposite of the Adrafinil. I imagine
this would help relieve stress a lot.
