The Apache

Not the heliocopter.
The predatory tribe in our mid-western history.

Plymouth Rock was first stepped on by some brits, our forebarers, in
1620.

In 1599 the construction of Santa Fe , New Mexico (today) was begun by
order of the Spanish Crown as their Capital in the New World.

They had problems with Apaches.
Constantly in fact. And the Apaches stole horses and guns from the
spanish and fought spanish.
They were very equal people, the Apache, they would attack anybody and
loot them equally. They had no predjudice between Hopi's or Navaho's or
Spanish.

The apache did not grow grain, or tend sheep, or hunt. They looted every
group around them without any particular predjudice.

Gerinimo was spanish for Jerome.
The last famous Apache leaer of their lifestyle was an indian named
Jerome (Geronimo in English)

Jerome doesn't sell well as a ame so the spanish name was used.

Every endevor to quell the Apache was joined by all the indian tribes.
The Apache was a predator nation.

The apache tamed the horse the spanish lost.....
And they capured spanish guns.

When we, the angloes met the Apache they were not stupid running around
hooting and hollaring like the indians we faced before, begging to be
shot down.

They were a formed and efficent calvery who understood and guns efore we
ever got there.

I think General Patton called them the most eficent light calvery unit
in the world.

They had guns and horses for maybe two hundred years before we met them.

Understand? An agressive civilization that preyed on their neighbors?
And well trained in our arts of war. Never befoe hadwe faced this.

Patton was sent...was it Patton? To quell them.

They fought from horse back, and had guns, for almost two hundred years
before we met them.

Anyway we got Jerome and killed him

Then we forced al apache's to wear yellow arm bands so we could all,
indians and angloes alike, identify them.

At one point we dropped that reguirment.
But the Apache indians wouldn't stop.
It became a symbol of pride.

Yellow head bands and arm bands are worn today.

Extremely agressive culture. Yes.

In their time, the best light calvery in the world.

To this day....
I was there last in 78.
They wear a yellow head band or a yellow arm band. Many do.
Its their pride..
An agressive and predatory culture.

I bet you'll see yellow arm bands and head bands today.

They understood guns.
They didn't ride around circled wageon trains getting shot like clay
pideons.
They creeped on the ground to kill enemy.
