Default asenapine

Is now in the hands of the FDA for approval. I've been trying to find
the nitty gritty on this one without success.
Wikipedia says a little - minimal weightgain, seratonin + dopamine
regulator, next generation atypical

Sounds a bit old school if you ask me. C'mon genetic drugs!

Does anyone know how long FDA approval takes? And if it gets approved,
how long till we can get this from our doctors?

It's supposed to help with negative side effects. If that's so, I'd
like to try mixing it with amisulpride. They might go well together.

In the US, drug approval is a slow and expensive process. Drugs go through
three phases of testing, each of which can take over a year. After phase 3,
I don't know what the average time for FDA approval is.

It looks like drug approval in the States is between 6 and 10 months.
So it may still be a year before we see anything like this on the
market. And even then, they may decide to deny it like they did
bifeprunox. I wish it was more like 4 months.

If anything, the neuroleptics have made it to market with nasty and
dangerous side effects too often. While the atypicals were a big change
over the old anti-cholinergics, I'm not hopeful for another big breakthrough
for some time. I have been disappointed by the "newest latest thing" too
many times. Do you remember the huge excitement as Abilify was getting
close to being released? Then after it was, we started hearing about people
not sleeping, and such. Even after the bad reports, I felt I needed to try
Abilify. Akathesia. Nasty. Nasty. Nasty.

I'll agree that the akathesia is a pretty bad side effect. But I like
to stay hopeful about new meds being produced, especially ones that
may help with negative and cognitive symptoms. More options is always
better. I think that over the next 5 to 10 years we'll see
increasingly more effective medications with much easier side effect
profiles. Also, they'll have a better understanding of why
schizophrenia forms and how to treat it, so hopefully many of the
original problems can be fixed.

I was on Risperdal for schizophrenia but I resisted... my Dad was
supposed to ensure my compliance as a condition of me not being put on
the injection but i was routinely flushing half my dose down the
sink. I still had a load of shitty side effects including akathysia
even though I was only on a half dose.
I'm on Olanzepine now which is far superior and the only side effect
is sleepy eyes and long sleepiness with a bit of grumpiness in the
mornings.
I guess I'm lucky. Most guys in my country who get diagnosed with
schizophrenia wind up on the rispiridone injections.
HOoray for Olanzepine.

In about 20 years, through artificial intelligence, the computers may be
smarter than people. Maybe the computers will figure it out.
