Default bar pals

I went to the pub last night
I found some of my pub buddies, but was nearly silent

I don't have much to say to people
Hospital was an empty experience
I can't talk about my voices and symtoms because they wouldn't understand

I felt worlds apart from my pub mates
I am wondering if I go again, is it worth it?

kez, you're gonna find most people on earth don't understand. Even most
people on this ng won't understand each other! But there are people out
there who do. It's just a matter of finding them, and that takes a lot of
work and some blind luck.

I feel for you kez. Hang in there. Do they know you have schizophrenia ?

Why do you need to talk about it ? Can you find a support group where you
can freely speak if you need to ?

There is more in your life than schizophrenia. Talk about those things with
people
who you don't think would understand.

Rohan.

Hi Kez

Sorry to hear that you are going through a tough time.

When I first became ill, most of what I told the doctors of my
experiences was actually made up and I didn't actually really believe
a lot of what I told them. This was because I thought my beliefs were
too earth shattering to reveal to anyone. Since, through this group
and meeting people in real life, I have found that a lot of my
"dellusions" have been shared by a lot of people.

You are right that people wouldn't understand your experiences and
voices in the same way you do, but with other people who have a mental
illness, they will probably be able to understand better than you
might think. Though I understand it doesn't always seem right to talk
about things.

As for being quiet in pubs, I do that myself sometimes. Most people
really don't mind, but if it bothers you, how about going with your
friends to see some live music, theatre or a film, that way you will
be with people but it won't be expected of you to be talking all
night?

Hope to catch up soon
