To the men in here,

Were you taught that whining is unmanly and you try to avoid it?

Or something like that?

for me personally I have found that loud lamentations can cause alot of
negativity which feeds back creating a kind of self-fulfilling loop of
misery. It is also true however that if you hide the pain of your existence
from the world then the world may pass you by.

it has also been said that a silent lifeboat can be a hellish place to live
so perhaps it is better that those who can, try to lighten the atmosphere a
little. of course this is just my personal view and I don't think there is
any wrong or right in the matter.

take care

Yes, I was taught to repress as a boy. I have some family that still
thinks I need to do that more I think. The Emily Post manners and all,
above the individual suffering, or something like that. Unfortunately I
refuse to do that, because the few people in my family that do behave
that way, while they may be successful in some ways, are also very
unhealthy in other ways. If I can't talk with my family and learn about
how to get past things, then no wonder I need a therapist.

I recall a 20/20 segment about how girls are raised to be polite, and
lie about how they feel in general. They tested girls from what I
recall by giving them a really bad present, and the girls said thank you
and were like "it's so beautiful."

The boys were supposed to be tougher and not feel as much. Most of the
boys were more blunt about not liking the bad gift.

It was actually my mother rather than my father who was turned off by
whining. I think it's something arising in the ovaries--a whiny male is
aversive because he wouldn't make a good mate. As with all other things it
is the female perspective that has always dominated the earth and men have
been blamed for what women do to _each other_.
