The number of brain cells people have could play a role in whether they develop
mental illnesses such as schizophrenia
A team of scientitsts at Bispebjerg University Hospital have found a possible
link between schizophrenia and the number of brain cells people have.
The findings, which are published in the current issue of scientific journal
Cerebral Cortex, suggest that some people might have a surplus of brain cells by
the time they reach adulthood.
By conducting autopsies and comparing the thalamus brain region of eight
newborns and eight adults, the researchers found 11 million brain cells in the
newborns and only 6.5 million in the normal adults.
Those suffering from schizophrenia, however, maintained the high level of brain
cells, said Dr Bente Pakkenberg from the Research Laboratory for Stereology and
Neuroscience at Bispebjerg University Hospital.
'Until now, we have believed that the number of people's brain cells was
constant from birth to adulthood. But our studies have shown that some
schizophrenics have more brain cells than other adults. That might be part of
the reason behind their disease,' said Pakkenberg.
Based on the study's findings, Pakkenberg and the other scientists suggested
that the maintenance of brain cells is a carefully controlled balance and that
both a reduced and an increased number can lead to disturbances in cerebral
functions

augmentation in an effort to repair itself.
Then again, a high density of neurons might explain an excess of
neurotransmitters, like dopamine.
The scary part of the story, is that the next inhuman experiment will be to
try to kill off half of someone's brain cells. Lobotomy anyone?

| | | Re: Danish researchers find possible schizophrenia cause (TheCopen... We must have extra brain cells then.
But, schizophrenia is just the Greek word for scatterbrained. It
is used as a catchall for over a thousand brain disorders and for
political dissidence, although THEY are trying to make unauthorized
groups and blogs a political crime. This is a real political crime,
suppressing free speech, which America has never had before in its
history. Notice how we all get to write alike in Alchemy 61. It's the
best style, we think. Gellie Lahunkun has been blocked from forwarding
from any Yahoo groups. He says a sign comes up that says the service is
unavailable; but, we can spread stuff for him.

| | | Re: Danish researchers find possible schizophrenia cause (The Copen...
schizophrenics all have skinny legs. Your leg nerves are the most
massive nerves next to your spinal cord, they can actually constitute
1/3 of your central nervous system. doing stress exercises on your leg
muscles can stimulate growth of the central nervous system and basicly
have the same effect as shock therapy. You are basicly just shocking
the largest, most powerful muscles in the body, thereby doing your own
shock therapy, in a safe, healthy way with no bad side effects. |

Schizophrenia is another word for miscellaneous when it comes to
brain diseases, and, I having been diagnosed schizophrenic and in and
out of mental hospitals since I was twelve, I have big thick muscular
legs from mountain climbilng. http://community.webtv.net/MAJI61/MikeAndJane |

| | | Re: Danish researchers find possible schizophrenia cause (TheCope... Anyone can get tagged schizophrenic. Many people moving up to
Massachusetts, with the voodoo practices of Louisana, many people from
there violated some of the little pickie Massachusetts laws and got
committed for schizophrenia. But today that which was handled by
schizophrenia is being taken over by the criminal justice system all
over America. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
