I can't see how they can deny you if you're on your meds and see a
doctor regularly.

They want me to get a lawyer so someone else gets paid, I guess. I
need that $ too.

I will appeal it, but I think I'll do so with a lawyer. I've waited
almost 5 months for the first denial. I couldn't wait another 5 months.

I think what the p-doc writes is a key.

If things are still the same, SSDI takes 7 months to kick in. However, one
may qualify for SSI during that waiting period. It then takes 2 more years
before Medicare kicks in.

I think you need the right p-doc first, and then the lawyer to help with the
appeal.

Upon visits to the SS office, skip meds and drink lots of coffee before
going. Don't shave. Wear clothes that look like you have not changed
clothes in days. Never say that you think you will be able to work in the
future. The presumption must be that the disability is permanent.

From reading your posts, I think in most respects you can be honest. If I
were talking to them, I would say that without meds I can't function, and
with meds I sleep all day.

My area has many SS offices. I drove across town to apply at the office in
an economically depressed area. The staff in that office see a lot of
people who really do qualify. Applicants in an SS office in Beverly Hills
probably never get approved.

It didn't take 5 months to get SSI. That and food stamps was fast.

I will get my doc to write something. I speak to the lawyer next
tuesday. Lawyers don't want to see you until you get denied the first
time. Guess they know that you'll have the more money coming then.
Actually I just got off the phone with my doc's office and will pickup
the letter tomorrow. If I have an interview at the SS office, I'll
probably have a beard by then. I'll just make sure it's not groomed
too well. The not showering thing I do already. Staying clean is
highly overrated.

I got food stamps pretty fast. My 6 months are about out now.
Hopefully I can get them reupped after that. My wife has a job now and
they cut my temporary assistance. TA is quite a joke considering they
want you to take "classes" with them on how to find a job, etc to keep
it. Plus they only give out like $100/month and they insist you get a
baby sitter for the classes. With bus fare/gas expenses, babysitter,
it really eats into that measly $100.
