If things are still the same, SSDI takes 7 months to kick in. However, one
may qualify for SSI during that waiting period. It then takes 2 more years
before Medicare kicks in.
I think you need the right p-doc first, and then the lawyer to help with the
appeal.
Upon visits to the SS office, skip meds and drink lots of coffee before
going. Don't shave. Wear clothes that look like you have not changed
clothes in days. Never say that you think you will be able to work in the
future. The presumption must be that the disability is permanent.
From reading your posts, I think in most respects you can be honest. If I
were talking to them, I would say that without meds I can't function, and
with meds I sleep all day.
My area has many SS offices. I drove across town to apply at the office in
an economically depressed area. The staff in that office see a lot of
people who really do qualify. Applicants in an SS office in Beverly Hills
probably never get approved.
