a link to an article with the side effects (perhaps the severity of
side effects) of asenapine?

I found an article saying that asenapine caused akathesia...can that
be right?

It is good to know that you are keeping track of these things. It saves me
so much time and effort. [half joking, half truth]

It could be, I haven't read the article but I have suffered from
akathesia on risperdone and geodon.

Akathesia is something that should not be taken lightly. I think they
should call it "Living Hell".
I found a good article on it once, but it didn't list severity of the
side effects.
I'm trying to get one up on this drug as it may be the best thing
coming out in the next year or so.

schizophrenia.com hasn't updated their med section in a couple of
years, and getting on the discussion page is tricky at times. That
place needs an overhaul.
If I had the energy, I'd make a page indepth into drugs progress
towards FDA approval.
The people want to know.

Yes, Erik. Akathesia is torture. I feel that I have been tortured for
years on antipsychotica because of the akathesia. I was pacing for 12
hours a day at one time and the doctor would not change my medication.

Medications are a necessary evil in my case and I'm afraid to go off of
them.

I'm not pacing now since I'm taking trazadone at bedtime with the
geodon.

I'm sure you tried the lower dose thing, eh? I got it bad with a high
dose of haldol. I was like a fish out of the water. Next time I took
a smaller dose -

One thing that the hospitals should be trained to do with a person
with severe akathesia is give massages - or a massage chair even
(Those shaitsu machines are great!)

I spoke too soon, I have been pacing all evening because I had a glass
of ice tea. If I have any caffeine it seems to interact with the
medication and give me akathesia.

Hopefully it will go away by tomorrow.

I paced for 3 years off and on with the lowest dose I could take of
geodon and the doctor wouldn't change it. Finally when a different
doctor gave me trazadone for sleep, coicidently it grealty reduced my
pacing to just occasional episodes. The doctors never seem to want to
change my medication.

Don't get me started on akathesia, lol!

I wouldn't be able to stop pacing long enough for them to give me a
massage due to the akathesia.

By akathesia, you mean pacing back and forth, very restless, right?

Feeling restless is akathesia. But saying restlessnes doesn't quite
fit the bill, but then saying akathesia gets the drug makers bye as
many probably don't know what it means.

Hope you get some good sleep soon, penguin

Hi penguin

akathesia was bad for me, if I was sitting down I had to stand up, if I was
standing up I had to lie down, if I was lying down I had to to walk.

non stop motion for for the best part of two days, I think I got about two
hours sleep, very unpleasant, added to the mix was psychosis, delusions,
hallucinations, paranoia, and an overwhelming urge to for total annihilation
it was all a little bit too much for me.

Still mustn't grumble...

I think I experienced this during my last break, but I think it was
due to exrteme anxiety. It was torture, that's for sure. The always
needing to be doing something different than what you're doing at the
moment. I had stiffness too. Yes, torture. For me Klonopin took care
of it.

Thank god for drugs, again.

I feel bad for you guys whose docs won't give any type of uppers/
downers to. (Antidepressants/antianxiety). Where would I be without
those things too? A mess. Damo is doing well now on his Klonopin too.
I think that's rotten that you can't get any uppers/downers. I would
try different docs if you can. Just a thought. I think some would see
it differently and at least try it and not be so afraid.

Gelly, I take lorazepam as needed for anxiety. It is similir to the
clonipin? (clonazepam) that you take.

I have suffered severe Akathisia on Haldol and high dose Risperidone. It
wasn't as severe on 37.5mg depot of Risperidone except occasionally maybe
4-6 times a month I would get a bit of milder Akathisia but it was still
very uncomfortable and took me out for awhile but just not as severe as it
can be on higher doses. I`ve had my dose lowered to 25mg and have had to
wait 3 weeks before any change would be noted, I last had a touch of
Akathisia this past Monday night which was just short of 3 weeks since the
first 25mg depot.

I`m not entirely sure if the lower dosage is in effect yet and I`m expecting
to wait another 3 weeks before I can be sure the 25mg is running through the
system, so I cannot be sure yet whether my occasional mild episodes of
Akathisia will diminish further- maybe I`m stuck with it.

It seems to me that the psychological effect of suffering from severe
Akathisia leaves you more sensitive to milder forms of Akathisia as you know
the feeling prior to a severe Akathisia episode and to feel that even
slightly brings on an anxiety which can leave you in a mildly Akathisic
state for hours. If I never expierienced severe Akathesia I`m not sure I
would be so sensitive to it now.

I think anything that ends in "pam" is a benzodiazapine tranquilizer.
I believe they are very much the same.

I am surprised they only have you taking it as needed and not more if
you have the akathasia and stuff. I would guess it would help with all
that .

Gelly

For some reason the trazadone I am taking is helping with the akathesia.
It's just occasional akathesia now.

The trazadone (an old antidepressant) is prescribed for sleep but it
calms me during the day, too.
