Default dog died last night

My dog died sometime last night.
We found him lying motionless in his den, rigor mortis had already set in.
He only weighed about 11 kilos, so i could pick him up quite easily and put
the body in the back of the truck. He had contracted some kind of viral
infection passed through fleas which he caught presumably after running out
to go after a female dog who was in heat.
He was AWOL for nearly a week and after he returned he seemed normal at
first and he really ate a lot. Then a couple of days later he couldn't even
get up. I took him to the vet who gave him a couple of injections, it seems
that this virus is quite common and transmitted by fleas from strays. On
Sunday evening i took him to see the vet, after that and on Monday he
wouldn't eat anything. This morning we found him cold and lifeless.

i dug a shallow grave and popped him inside.

RIP, Lucky (2006-2007).

I will try to learn from example of your dog and be careful about
females in heat.

Hello Piere,

I am sorry to hear your dog died.

I was just wondering how long a normal dog lives and that
is arround 14 years , so in one lifetime a man can own about
5 dogs (if he becomes 78) and see them all grow up and
age through the year and have sorrow about the loss of the
dog. So I would like to ask you if you want a new dog
in the future?

Berty

This is sad news Pierre.

Don't forget to use some flea killer in his den. Use a good insecticide.

Hi Quiet Neighbour,

Yes, Lucky was a very cute little dog with white fur specked with spots of
brown and always bouncy and happy. I took his loss well, but my mom was very
upset when she found out that he had died. My uncle brought Lucky to us as a
stray puppy from an out-of-town state and Lucky was with us for over a year
when he died. He was a very alert watch dog and very brave. Too adventurous.
If we had locked him up in the cage all day, he'd soil the cage and it
seemed cruel. So we let him out but we hadn't put up fencing yet so he ran
out of the house. The other dog which we had, Sally, was more cautious and
Sally never ran far away. But Lucky was fearless. Tragically that also meant
taking more risks, ie socialising with strays. I should have left Lucky with
the vet's overnight, but they were closed the next day and told me to take
him home.

Do dogs have souls?

Hi Berty,

We might get another dog, maybe not now but later.
I was thinking a Labrador or some short fur breed.
Dogs normally live for around 10-14 years, depending on the breed (bigger
dogs have shorter lifespans apparently)and living conditions. 1 dog year
equals 7 human years, so by the time they're 3, they're ready to mate. Lucky
was around 3 though i can only guess cos he came in as a stray pup and
stayed with us for about a year.

I have had over 8 or 9 dogs since my childhood. I once had a really
intelligent alsation/german shepard female named Anna, she was so clever,
she always came immediately if you called her name and she was gentle and a
very good watchdog. But one day we took Anna to be spayed and the vet nipped
a major artery and she died on the operating table. That really sucked. She
was such a clever and obedient dog.

I think dogs do have souls. You can see it in the light of their eyes.

Sorry for your loss, Pierre.

Well,

I have thought about your question. I think my best answer might be: if
humans have souls, then dogs have souls
