Default Dostinex and anti-psychotics

A question if I may:

My youngest daughter has sz and recently (about 3 weeks ago) started
taking Dostinex which is used primarily for suppressing high prolactin
levels (which inhibits periods) due to benign pituitrary tumours. Problem is
she thinks her anti-psychotics are not working as effectively. General "off
the net" info says the two drugs have opposite effects on dopamine, which
she was also told by hospital staff after she visited the cas-ward for
intrusive thoughts.

Does anyone know if these two drugs can be taken together in some way?
Appreciate any answers, as the hosp staff also knew nothing about dostinex
initialy,..yep you guessed it, they then went on the net...

The online pharmacies have a free drug interaction checker. Very easy to
use.

Hard to know if there is a drug-drug interaction since you did not mention
what drug(s) she is on. I think, however, some common cold medicines like
benadryl can inhibit the desired effects of anti-psych meds, so a drug-drug
interaction is a possibility.

Risperdal (respiridone), a common sz antipsychotic, raises prolactin levels
significantly. Are you sure it is not the anti-psychotic causing the raised
prolactin levels?

She's on Seroquel 400mg/day and Risperdal (not sure of the dosage), plus
Effexor as an anti-depressant.

The hosp staff mentioned a dopamine clash, Dostinex causes an increase, the
anti-psychotics, a decrease.

She had a prolactin level of 20 times the normal range. This caused a
cessation of periods. They used CT and MRI to picture the pituitary, and the
benign tumour was present. The cessation of periods was initially put down
to her medication, but after some years of this, her GP who had asked her to
have further tests, got her to agree.
This situation doesn't seem to be familiar to her Psychiatrist either, as he
failed to mention anything early on (last visit). Presently she has on hosp
recommendation increased her seroquel by 200mg.
She's upset, and I was asking in the hope someone may have had a similar
thing. Thanx for your comments.

Jason,

More info dostinex straight from the source. Seems like there may be
possible interactions, but your physician, psychiatrist, or pharmacist
would/should know better than I would....

Yes, I agree. The shrink wasn't much help, but due to the upset she's
experiencing, its off to see him again, tomorrow in the hope he can console
her anxiety.
Thanx for the link and comments, Jim.
