I would imagine that they list their ingredients somewhat accurately.
I think by FDA law they have to.
The main thing that I think helps these drinks work is their extremely
high amounts of caffeine and B vitamins. B vitamins increase your
metabolism and help you burn energy faster. More specifically vitamin
B6 and B12, but I think
niacin and inositol help too. Most of them
have taurine, but from what I've read taurine just helps your muscles
get rid of waste products and replenish nutrients. My experience with
energy drinks is that they help me feel clear in thought, focus
better, they make me feel happier, and more energetic. When I take B
vitamin supplements in pill form I don't get the same feeling. And so
there must be something else in the energy drinks that gives me this
feeling, or there is a combination of things that all work together
synergisticly to create this feeling.
These energy drinks aren't entirely bad for you. I get the diet kind
that doesn't have any sugar, and so it's mostly just vitamins and herb
extracts and your body can handle all of these just fine in
moderation. My main issue with them is that they are terrible for your
teeth. I think most people know that the acid in a can of soda, such
as Coke, eats away at your teeth and causes cavities. Well with energy
drinks they are about 30 times worse for your teeth and can cause
major tooth decay and LOTS of cavities. If you drank an energy drink
every day, after a few months you probably wouldn't have many teeth
left. Seriously... So because of this I would very much prefer to take
them in pill form, but for some reason I'm not able to achieve the
same results that I get from drinking a can of Rockstar or Monster.
Because of this side effect I only drink them occasionally; usually a
few times a month.
I've been reading a little about panax ginseng and how it can help
with schizophrenia. Ginseng is in the energy drinks.

Then I read on wikipedia that ginseng has these chemicals (adaptogens)
that help your body deal with stress chemicals and it can help
stabilize parts of your brain. Well I happen to have a bottle of it
from a long time ago that I never really used. So tomorrow morning I'm
going to try taking some and see if it helps. I may eventually try
adding it to the Glycine + GABA + Tianeptine (GGT) mixture I've been
taking. It would be interesting to try the GGT trio with the energy
drinks to see how well they balance out.
