Default First Post:Hello!!

Hi everyone, been reading this group for a while...so decided to post
something for you and say hello!!

I'm based in the UK.diagnosed with Schizophrenia in 1996.
I won't go into the details of my experience unless someone asks me.
The psychiatric hospital were very good with me and after a few trial and
errors,they put me on Olanzapine.
I have a home nurse who still comes to see me,making sure everything is ok
so the support I get is very good...

I still take 20mg of Olanzapine a day,I've put on a lot of weight with
it,going from 11stone to 16!!
I was recently made redundant from my job too,but i'm actually enjoying a
bit of time off to do things i like and concentrate on getting better.

So what do I with my time?
Well, the main thing is playing the guitar and bass.I've got a website with a
few songs on,some are unfinished due to me losing interest in them.Very
short on the concentration side of things!!

If you fancy I quick listen to them here's the link...
http://www.btinternet.com/~diddymouse/

My latest project is the song at the very bottom of the site...I called it
Annecy In The UK after going on holiday to France and seeing the mountain
climbers and skiers on Mont Blanc(the highest mountain in Europe which I got
to the top of via cable car).....

Hope to hear some replies!!
Regards,
dAVE

welcome

A certain med made me 300 pounds, at one time.

Not all meds produce the same weight gain.

Weight gain should not be underestimated in its effect on physical health.

While I would trade for a normal brain in a second, there is something nice
about being on vacation all the time. Unfortunately, many women have no
respect for a man that is not employed. They would rather a man parked cars
than accept disability money.

Depending on your budget, and what you like, I think the best value for free
time is carefully chosen used books.

Good luck,
QN

If said man picks up after himself and takes equal responsibility for housework
rather then just "helping" the woman with housework and can repair things then
said man might be welcome at home.. but many men when home just generate loads
of housework, will not pickup after themselves and women prefer to have these
type of men out of the house 40 hours a week no matter how trivial their job is.

I am glad when My so is gone because he is a slob.

Hi there QN,thanks for replying!!!
I was struggling a lot in my last job but I stuck it out until the bitter
end..
Getting made redundant has changed my life somewhat.

I can think clearly now on whatever problems I have and work through
them, without all the trials and tribulations a job entails.....so I look on
the positive side as it seems to have done me some good living a less hectic
life.

dAVE

Hi there!!
Thanks for the reply and the welcome!
I probably won't post too much here,i'm not a very good talker but i'll
continue to read and chime in when I can!!
I'm usually just plinking on my guitars most of the time.

There's lots of people I know who think i'm a bit daft because I don't talk
that much...
Hehehe!
I do listen a lot though.

Ah, yes. As a schizophrenic (schizoaffective) I need to drug myself with an
overdose of coffee to get any housework done. Inability to do household
chores and personal hygiene problems are direct effects of the illness. I
snore at night too.

I should apologize for thinking in stereotypes about women.

My name is Jim and I am schizoaffective, though I get good results (with no
weight gain) from Abilify for my schizophrenia and from sertraline (zoloft)
for my depression. I am unable to hold down a job, but I do lead a
relatively 'normal' life in other respects. I have a girlfriend named
Grace, I record homemade music on my computer, and I play chess on Yahoo
games. I can read, but I do not read books for pleasure because my
concentration level and vision are just too poor. Most of my reading
consists of slogging through the posts to a.s.s. (alt.support.schizophrenia)
and the e-mail exchanges on a college listserv.

Nice music David! I also enjoy making music, and I post my original pieces
to a music collaboration website, http://www.kompoz.com , where one can
collaborate with musicians and vocalists from around the world through mp3
and wav file exchanges. Check out the website. My handle on Kompoz.com is
"jerasmus".

Welcome, Dave

I am a woman diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. I am on geodon
(ziprasidone) and trazadone for sleep. I gained 40 lbs on geodon even
though the drug companies say it doesn't make you gain weight.

nice to meet you!

Hi there!!
The weight gain is a bit of problem for me but most people said I looked
really ill when I was so thin and the extra pounds make me look healthier!!
I don't mind so much now,I do try and keep fit but the weight doesn't seem
to come off!!

dAVE
