You should not be trying to use both connectios at once. One of the
connections to the 'net
should be disabled. Are you using ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) on the
Window box downstairs? With any network topology to your router (direct
wireless or wired to router, or via downstairs PC using ICS through it to
router) you should be able to set up a "network share" on either computer,
ie run it as a server, which could have, say your work files and MP3s and so
on. You can stream you MP3s from the server downstairs then with Windows
Media Player on your upstairs machine for example. Create an account on your
downstairs server which has the same login as your upstairs machine of
course. To give each machine a name in "System" in Windoze that maps to it's
Ip address alter "lmhosts" and "hosts" in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC or
just use the dotted decimal in "Map Network Drive" in "Tools" menu of "My
Computer" to connect to server from upstairs workstation. When you login to
workstation in future the machine should automatically connect to the server
and show network drive in Windows Explorer (My Computer). The client/server
connection will be at maximum possible bandwidth then.
Hope that's helpfull. Email address if you need it is on my website
