I have good experiences with Haldol. I used
Seroquel for about 2 years,
but was very fuzzy and tired with that. I'm hardly fuzzy now, so that's
good.
The Seroquel I used wasn't strong anti-psychotic enough for me, I still
heard voices with 700mg (which is about the max dose). Going to 1200 mg
didn't really help.
Haldol is a stronger anti-psychotic, and 2 mg is enough for me. I was on 5
mg for a while, but it's working good enough now to lower that dose. When
I go to 1,75 mg I get my voices back. With more than 2 mg I get tense and
have the feeling that I want to move, that I can't sit still. Very
annoying.
I do have by-effects caused by the medication. I feel like I have not so
much energy as without medication. Feelings are somewhat flat. Motivation
is down somewhat, which makes working and sporting a bit harder to do and
keep doing. I guess this is just the normal side-effects for antipsychotic
drugs.
I do long for something better though. I'm thinking
Abilify might be good
for me. It is claimed to not have so much side-effects, but at the same
time its anti-psychotic function is not so strong. So maybe I still need
to combine it with the stronger Haldol.
Anyway, these are my experiences. You will have to try how it works out on
you, which you can only do when you use it yourself. Haldol does have a
bad name among many people. It was and maybe still is a medicine that's
been used as a first medication in many (acute) situations, and usually in
high doses, sometimes even up to 100mg. The times of such high dosings is
pretty much gone, and people on low doses can go pretty well on it, but
the name of Haldol is severely damaged by it.

Marcel
