| | | indoorsiness vs. social phobia I haven't been out of the apartment since Monday. Before that, I hadn't been
out for seven days.
What I'm experiencing is no urge to go out. But when I needed to go out on
Monday to get some things done, I had no problems. It helps that I have
almost no responsibilities and rarely need to go anywhere.
Does that matter, though? Do you have to experience fear or some other kind
of aversion at the thought of going out, in order to have social phobia? Or
is just never going out, for whatever reason, enough for a diagnosis? |

I think the negative symptoms of shiz would make you want to not go out. |

Not so much wanting not to go out as having no interest in going out. But I
take your point. I've always had motivational problems and difficulty
grinding things out. Unfortunately, in today's world, grinding things out is
pretty much the only way to get anywhere.
Luckily, there's almost never a reason for me to go out, and almost nothing
I _have_ to do. The household stuff is taken care of--in fact, I'm pretty
much forbidden even to wash the dishes--and disability covers my meagre
bills. So, while Dan (Damo) ponders whether he has turned into a potato, I'm
comfortable to be a turnip. Except that his situation is dire and mine will
be comfortable at least until November. |

Sounds like agoraphobia, not being able to go out.

What's agoraphobia, exactly? I've heard that it's fear of crowds and that
it's fear of open spaces. |

agoraphobia- fear of the marketplace. I have it, I hardly ever leave my
apartment.

Hmm. "Agora" was actually more like the city legislature. I'd more call
myself a misagoric--someone who hates the agora. :-) |

Unless you count trips to the mailbox, I haven't been out since my shopping
trip on Tuesday. I bought 6 half gallons of ice cream.
Most scheezers have issues with socialization. It might not require a
separate diagnosis. |

Thanks. It makes things more straightforward for me.
How long do you expect three gallons of ice cream to last you? |

I was told I have Asperger's just in 2007, after being called schizophrenic
since 1991. Seems to be a pattern here. |

Not sure what you mean. I have occasional short-term memory problems and my
memory of the past is a mess. Sometimes I do tune out the world because I'm
distracted. If you mean lose time from work, I don't work. |

Penguin suggested that, but I don't know. On Friday I went out to run some
errands and enjoyed it. Likely it's negative symptoms of some sort. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
