Default Infra red scanner/copier?

Hello all, hope you are feeling fine-I haev a question that I am sure
you will understand
Does anyone know where to purchase a device that can copy IR as it is
being transmitted-from a distance of about 20 metres?or does it need to
be nearer.
btw this is not a tv remote control.
Thanks for your time, patience and general good nature.

Doing some surveillance? HmmMMM? They've got those IR cameras that
take pictures of houses to see where the insulation should be put.
What you need sounds like something James Bond would carry. Ask him.

I am the watcher and watched-to be able to duplicate the device would
enable freedom ! I know a while back you could buy a cheapish watch
that could mimic the IR scan if you set it to record at the right
moment-but that was some time ago.
Googlin does not yield satisfaction.

Do you mean some kind of extender device for IR?

They make USB to IR detector devices for PCs. A common use would be
communicating from a desktop PC to a handheld PDA by IR.

What I want really is to be able to capture someone elses IR "beam" as
they use it to open there device-so I can open it myself at will-not
for any purloining purposes-purely for satisfaction and maximum pay
back.

IR signals do not pass through walls. A typical IR device would be a TV set
receiving from an IR handheld remote control. You would have to be in the
same room standing near the receiving device to intercept an IR signal.

Your "open their device" terminology makes me think that perhaps this thread
is based on some kind of delusion. I guess you are in the right newsgroup
for it.
