* New Gene Markers for Schizophrenia?
"Scientists say they have discovered a tiny chunk of DNA that
may affect schizophrenia risk. The DNA chunk is located near two genes
-- the CSF2RA and IL3RA genes -- that haven't been linked to
schizophrenia before." For story, click:

Another article on the same subject:
"Of the 500,000 genetic markers, the researchers found that the
most significant link with schizophrenia came from a marker located in
a chromosomal region called the pseudoautosomal region 1 (PAR1), which
is on both the X and Y chromosomes. The marker was located adjacent to
two genes, CSF2RA and IL3RA, which previously were thought to play a
role in inflammation and autoimmune disorders." For story, click:

* Schizophrenia in Developed and Developing Countries
"Research by the World Health Organization (WHO) has suggested
that the course and symptomatic expression of schizophrenia is
relatively more benign in developing societies. However, a new study
from Current Anthropology challenges this assumption, comparing
biological and cultural indicators of schizophrenia in urban, Western
societies with study data from the island of Palau, which has one of
the highest rates of schizophrenia diagnosis in the world today." For

* Experimental Schizophrenia Medication in Phase II of Trials
"The Phase II clinical trial was a multi-center, randomized,
double-blind, placebo-controlled, six-week study designed to evaluate
the ability of ACP-103, when used together with either
risperidone or
haloperidol, to provide an improved therapy for patients with
schizophrenia." For story, click:
