Default Keefman

I was reading my day callendar and there was a note about
a mental patient called Jan Arends who wrote the book Keefman
which is full of stories about mental patients issues in the
institutions. He published in 1972 and jumped of a balkone
in 1974, was born in 1925 and must have been 83 now as he
still lived but died instead age 49. There was a note on the
back of the book he should have been awarded the nobel price.
He liked to hire himself to dominant women as a housekeeper.
I bought the book a few days ago and am impressed.
They even named a school after him in the city my girlfriend
lives.

Thanks for listening.

Berty

I'm so glad there aren't anymore asylums in the states. Reagan did
good by us in that respect.

And according to statistics we have more people in jail per capita too.

The US actually has the highest percentage of the worlds population in
prison now, last I looked.

This country is unfortunately going down in flames, and we need a
radical alteration to save us, from being poor, from the greedy, and
from ourselves.

That book sounds very interesting. I wonder if it is available in the
US.

I don't think it is available in the US, I don't think it is
translated
in English so far and probably never will. Dutch is a small area
in the world for books, we have only 16 million people here in
the Netherlands and maybe 8 million Dutch speaking people
in Belgium. Most writers here can live from their writings, it is
more an extra.

Atleast homeless have a choice of being in an an institution or not.
If they thought you were mental in the old days, you'd be carted off
to an asylum - perhaps to never leave.
Can you imagine?
Watch "One flew over the coocoo's nest".
This was pre-Reagan.
You can fight your doctor in court to get released nowadays and most
stays aren't more than 2 weeks.

Yeah, it's a tough one. The system still sucks in general though I
think. There are great benefits to not being forcefully
institutionalized like in the old days. It's just that there are a lot
of people who need a hospital and can't get into one and are homeless.
They don't have a choice, still because now they're not forced INTO a
hospital, they're forced OUT and can't get one at all, and have no
other place to go...

I love the movie/book One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest". One of my
favorites. When I was hating Landlord I called him (to myself) Nurse
Ratched with tiny testicles. It was pretty bad. I really thought he
had some bad (controlling) intentions for me. He still does... but we
get along better now. That's a different, long story... will save it
for another time.
