Default Mastering envy

it is a temptation to envy healthy and successful people when one is a
schizo.

THEY force you to eat pills or THEY get you locked up, and then THEY
are over you because you are numbed, and in the long run the same THEY
are more advanced and more successful, looking down because you made
less than THEM.

How to resist being bitter about that?

Yes, easy to get bitter and resent "their" working "life".

Get drunk with any old mates and have a laugh if you still know any. If not
then just get drunk with some "normal" people who are "successfull". Yes
it's good for the soul and you should have some less serious stories for
them :-)

Lightclock, it is essential that I find inner strength to overcome
envy, not because THEY, the "normals" are either normal or good, but
because envy subverts my inner spiritual growth.

Envy is a negative, blocking emotion. No matter how unrighteous it may
seem that THEY are holding me down "for my own good", I must not be
swept over into negative state of mind, I must remain creative

Yes, envy is a mental poison, but obviously one that does not become
a basis for behaviour so does not go away easily. I dunno actually it's
one that crops up when things are not so good in life anyway. Then all
the resentment and, in my case, baseless and incongruent mostly, bad
feeling that can't be talked round/over with "previous" friends becomes
conscious and I know it's going to reappear in future if rationalising it
with some compassion isn't happening.

More or less the same in other words Marvin. What do you do, anybody?

True, envy does not go away easily. I felt sometimes endangered by
some younger people like an older lion that kills lion kittens. i was
exposed to such abuse and it is imprinted in me. Perhaps I have it in
my blood. blood reacts quick, reasoning takes time.

Hi Marvin,

What a great topic.

As you may know, envy is a horrible, horrible thing that we must
overcome and I believe that by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, we can
overcome envy. Consider what James said on this subject:

James 4

1 From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence,
even of your lusts that war in your members?
2 Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot
obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.
3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume
it upon your lusts.
4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of
the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend
of the world is the enemy of God.
5 Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that
dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?
6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the
proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will
flee from you.

Remember, Jesus says that we may ask for anything, including success,
a stable mind, health, etc. and James says (1:6) that we should ask in
faith and not waver.

I think a real break-through for me came when I realized that alot
of the worldly-succesful people don't really know what they're talking
about; I mean, sure, the *world* listens to them (1 John 4:5), but as
a Christian, should I? If the entire world is in a state of deception
by Satan, then, what do these people really know?

What if the world says you're crazy or unhealthy? Don't you think
that Satan wants you to believe this? But yet if you've asked the Lord
Jesus Christ for a healthy mind, then YOU HAVE A HEALTHY MIND but, of
course, Satan will come along saying, "ahhh, you're not like the
psychiatrists! you're not like the people on tv! how can you have a
healthy mind?!?!" Well, STOP LISTENING TO SATAN!!!!!!!

Jesus Christ is the way, the truth, and the life, and He provides
everything we need. So trust the Lord on this and other subjects and
you shall find, that by walking by faith in Him, that, lo and behold,
you really *do* have healthy mind and you really *do* have all that
you need and that there really is no reason to envy. Throw your cares
upon the Lord - He knows how to handle them. He is faithful and true.

How to resist bitterness? Look, Marvin, YOU HAVE ETERNAL LIFE IN
JESUS CHRIST! Most people do not! You've passed out of condemnation
and into life because of what Jesus did for you. You've got a treasure
inside of you that OTHERS SIMPLY CANNOT SEE - so what? Because they
don't see it (yet) doesn't make it any less real.

So, in my opinion, the best thing to do is just throw all your
trust into the Lord Jesus Christ and in doing so, you shall overcome
envy, bitterness, etc.

Next topic should probably be "Mastering jealousy" or "Mastering anger
& desire for vengeance".

You see, I believe in Christ, but I believe there is wisdom in
mastering envy that is surpassing the boundaries of religion. Non-envy
is simply an universal virtue.

Envy kills.

Elizabeth,

Don't think I am ashamed of Christ, no, Jesus is fine and His word is
so true.

I am ashamed of religion.

Religion has killed hundreds of millions in the name of Christ and
kept mankind in darkness for 13 centuries.
