Medicare Part D comes with my HMO (Kaiser). It helps, but one has to keep
the annual HMO drug cost under about $2500. Above that there is a range of
non-coverage. Above that range, coverage kicks in again. They call it "the
doghnut hole."
For many scheezer meds, the $2500 will only cover 6 to 9 months of meds.
Some meds can be purchased at a deep discount from Canada.
Although Part D is flawed, the alternative may be buying all meds
out-of-pocket. In that case, it is better than nothing.
Medicaid programs might be better for a low income situation.
If no insurnce is available, Janssen had, and may still have, a program for
providing free
risperdal. Ironically, when Part D became available to me,
it disqualified me for the free meds.
