Default PBS show

PBS is showing an episode of the series "Curious." It is about the brain.

Title: Mind Brain Machine

In one segment they talk about people who grew up without a corpus calosum.
This is the part of the brain that links the hemispheres of the brain.

I had previously seen shows about people who had their corpus calosum cut in
adult life. The folk in this show never had one.

While these folk are clearly not schizophrenic, they seem to have some of
the negative symptoms of Sz. Also, they have social interaction difficulty,
which *some* scheezers have.

I found all this intensely interesting, but I'm not sure what to conclude
about it.

Wild guess: -that the onset of schizophrenia, in part, impairs the function
of the corpus calosum.

Why would someone want that cut in adult life?

Ha. I don't think he was saying they have it cut on purpose.

There are a lot of people having strange surgeries to improve
themselves these days but I have never yet heard of elective brain
surgery.

YET!!!

But the day will probably come...

Ha ha.

Where have you been Erik the Red. I was thinking I might be scaring
you off from posting because there's a psycho in your same town
posting to A.S.S. and I might hunt you down someday and do something
weird when I am off my meds. Come back and post some more, you lighten
this place up.

It is considered a last ditch "treatment" for epilepsy. If epileptic
seizures are coming from the right side of the brain, cutting the corpus
calosum stops the seizure from spreading to the left, which controls speech
and such.

I expect someday it will be rejected as barbaric as lobotomies are barbaric.

forgot.

My wife mentioned a writer in Japan getting (his idea) a labotomy (not
a full one) to improve his life. I wonder what he was like afterwards.

Hey Gelly. There's alot of psychos in this town, but I doubt they'd
admit to it.
I've been a bit on the ill side lately. I hope to post more regular
soon.

Wikipedia has a good description.

To me it is a crime against humanity.
