About 12 years ago I was on Medi-Cal, which is California's Medicaid
program. As I recall, my best luck was with going to the County Hospital.
They had a section for non-emergency treatment. Also, in my area, it was
common to go to the emergency room, for minor things like a sore throat.
They even had a waiting area and reception desk for the non-emergency
emergency room visits. As I recall, there was a fixed out-of-pocket amount
I had to pay for Medi-Cal costs each month. Anything above that amount was
paid by Medi-Cal. Thus, after running up enough charges to reach my limit
(kind of like a deductible), it didn't matter how expensive the service was.
Since my income was tiny (SSI), my out-of-pocket amount was very small each
month. |
