Hey Erik,

You have talked about being on Medicaid before. I just got it. I was
wondering how you go about finding docs who accept it. Do you just
have to cold call a bunch of them and ask?

Thanks.

Here's a very brief list of doctors I scared up on the fly. I'm sorry if it
doesn't meet your needs.

About 12 years ago I was on Medi-Cal, which is California's Medicaid
program. As I recall, my best luck was with going to the County Hospital.
They had a section for non-emergency treatment. Also, in my area, it was
common to go to the emergency room, for minor things like a sore throat.
They even had a waiting area and reception desk for the non-emergency
emergency room visits. As I recall, there was a fixed out-of-pocket amount
I had to pay for Medi-Cal costs each month. Anything above that amount was
paid by Medi-Cal. Thus, after running up enough charges to reach my limit
(kind of like a deductible), it didn't matter how expensive the service was.
Since my income was tiny (SSI), my out-of-pocket amount was very small each
month.

Good for you Gelly. Medicaid is necessary for schizers. Meds cost so
much.
The best way to find a doc is call the number on the back of the
card. They can find doc's in your area. As far as primary care docs,
there aren't many. They mostly refer you to clinics. Was it Barnes?
that had a little clinic off of Olive? That might be the closest one
to you. The last time I went to the clinic, they sent me a $3 bill
each month for 3 months. They REALLY lost money on that one.
