Default R700?!!! That's 70 Pounds.

After booking a visit to the Psychiatrist, they told me what the fee
was. I can't afford that. What exactly will he/she do anyway. I'm
already on a Beta Blockers and Alprazolam for anxiety. Citalopram for
depression and Olanzapine for Schizophrenia. Is it justified paying to
see them. I feel better and don't think theres anything more than can
be done for me.

I mean if I flip out maybe yes, but I'm becoming more stable as each
day passes.

What do you people think?

Well, according to today's exchange rate (£=R14.12), it's £50, not £70, but
that probably doesn't make an awful lot of difference. We have friends in
South Africa (live in Halfway House - halfway between Jo'burg and Durban, if
memory serves... Or is it Durban and Cape Town...? I forget). She used to go
to school with my mother, and her daughter is now good friends with my
younger sister) and the last time they came over here, I forget how many
years ago it was, the rand was at 20 to the pound! Mum's friend will be
coming back next year because they are both going to be 60, and there's goin
to be a little 'Class of '66' reunion, in Stratford of all places.

Sorry, I'm rambling, but I'm too bunged up to make any sense. But as far as
going to the shrink goes, that's entirely up to you. If you feel you need to,
then go, if not, well, don't, It a decision only you can make, I'm afraid.
You seem to want people here to make your mind up for you and, well, as only
you know your own state of mental health, only you can make that decision. I
can't make it for you, neither, I suspect, can anyone else. I know this isn't
exactly sympathetic, but it's honest. I don't have much truck with shrinks -
or the mental health establishment in general - I'm afraid.

Best of luck with whatever you decide to do...

Sarah

Hello Chris,

Here I have to go to the psychiatrist to get a prescribtion for meds.
It is the only way I can get my meds. So when things go well I see
him for 15 minutes every 3 months. Luckily I don't have to pay for
my visits, that is covered by insurrance here. Not even the poorest of
the poor here have to pay extra to see their shrink here. I pay $130
every month for insurrance, everybody here has to pay that.
Some get $40 dollar back from government funding.

Whether it is worth the visit depends on what you need him for.
If the only thing is that you say you are doing fine and have
another way to get your meds, give his secretary a phonecall
that you are doing fine and consider to see him again when needed.

Bearing in mind that I'm an interloper who knows f*ck all, it seems to
me that if the meds are working and you're feeling better, there's no
rush to see the psychiatrist, especially if it would leave you
financially embarrassed. If things get bad again, you can always see the
psychiatrist at a later date. In the meantime, you could always invest
some of that money in flowers/chocs for the wife.

If you cant afford it, next best thing is lots of psychology books. Indeed
for some people it is the first best thing. Ive learned much more from
reading than from pschology authors than pschologists in person, but thats
just me.

Keep in mind, one day, sooner or later you wont be able to take certain
drugs as you get older and start mixing. I always think its better to try
and live drug free, but thats just me too....

Good luck!
