| | | Really, really Disturbing Dreams. I'm currently taking Beta Blockers 40mg morning, 40mg at night. I
think I'm going to forgo the night dose as I'm getting really intense
nightmares. I'm also looking very tired. I read that Beta Blockers
lower the brains natural release of Melatonin. So I'm going to take
only 40mg in the morning. |

I mean. Why the dreams? I don't understand it. They don't effect the

I had dreams as vivid as Total Recall while I was on meds, and that was a year
before the movie was released. Beta-blockers was one of them. Not every
side-effect is included in the medical literature, so trying to get a doctor to
comprehend what ain't written by the authorities becomes a seemingly pointless
task. |

Sleep disturbance and nightmares are a common side effect of beta blockers.
The more lipophilic the drug in question the more pronounced this effect as
it is easier for the molecules to cross the blood/brain barrier. I quite
enjoy the vivid dreams mine give me, some of them are quite interesting. |

try to talk to your psyche dr. before stopping a medication, if this
isn't possible DON'T just stop, reduce your dose GRADUALLY. good luck |

Well I'm sure I could have got a novel out of last nights dream. I was
living in some kind of oppressive regime in the future. Where all your
thoughts were sent as letters to the government. We all lived in fear
because who can control there thoughts. Some scary situations arose
and I'm not going into it now. I'd just rather put that dream to bed
as it were. |

A lot of things I've read in various psych literature have said that
people can often get a *particular* nightmare to go away by simply
contemplating the beginning of the dream several times during the
evening, and then also contemplating a different resolution to the
dream. I have suggested this to various patients and some said it
worked for them, and some said they saw no result - so I really have
no idea on it.
I do know that if you ARE dreaming at all, you are having reasonably
decent sleep architecture, which is desirable, and can be destroyed or
reduced by any number of psych meds; so in that regard, I'd say it's
not so bad. Obviously nightmares are unpleasant, but you get to have
that "oh, wow, it's so excellent that was just a dream" *thing* when
you wake up.
I'd be interested to hear how it works out for you.

| | | Re: Really, really Disturbing Dreams. Beta blockers are usually prescribed for high blood pressure. But,
beta blockers are also put in atypical antipsychotic drugs. Beta
blockers cause asthmatics pneumonia in about a week. Beta blockers allow
allergy symptoms to rage out of control. Vasodialators will replace beta
blockers to reduce blood pressure. Vasodialators are as good and even
better than beta blockers in lowering blood pressure. Also a heart
medication like Cardizem is a vasodialator. It opens cardiac blood flow,
and lowers blood presure, but it has a warning to stay out of the sun.
Hot sunlight can cause migraine headaches for people taking
vasodialators.
Beta blockers block beta site adrenalin reception and therefore
are mood depressants. Beta blockers will cause dangerous (possibly
suicidal) depression in bipolar manic-depressive patients and people
with depression, therefore they are certainly not conducive to happy
dreams.
Also, dopamine blockers, by blocking dopamine, the reward
neurotransmitter of the brain, are certainly dangerous (posssible
suicide) for bipolar manic-depressive patients and people with
depression.
The atypical antipsychotic drugs are especially dangerous for
bipolar manic-depressive patients and people with depresson. They are a
double whammy with dopamine blockers and beta blockers. In fact they are
a quadruple whammy, with dopamine blockers, beta blockers, seratonin
blockers and mild acetylcholine blockers. Antidepressive drugs try to
enhance seratonin, so why block seratonin? They have mild seratonin
blockers; LSD is a strong seratonin blocker, so they certainly aren't
intended to stop hallucinations. They are actually to keep patients sick
to further financially support the psychiatric industry. |

Well the Melatonin seems to help, I do get dreams, but there not so
disturbing. I'm reducing my dose of Beta Blockers now so that might be
helping. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
