Default Risperidone and learning(cognitive ability)

Hi. I just started to drink Risperdone in 1 mg dosage. Before I only
drank Zoloft 75 mg and had some sucess with my exams in math and
physics.I am bit concerned that Risperdione will affect my learning
abitilies. What is your experience with this drug? Does it affect your
learning?

i took risperdal 1 mg 1 tablet a day and i sat for my bar exams and passed
with flying colors. i think schizophrenia the disease itself impairs
cognitive ability when it rears its ugly head, but when it doesn't you're
just as smart as a normal person with your capabilities are. risperdal in my
honest opinion, does not affect cognitive or learning ability at all. in
fact, it helps you to study as it is a mood stabiliser.

If you block receptor sites, it only makes sense for intelligence for a
normalo to go down. However, your question must be weighed in the context
of the conditions that risperidone is used to treat. Schizophrenia is
documented to cause progressive decrease in intelligence, and active
symptoms might prevent taking an intelligence test at all.

I started taking 1mg a couple years ago and I have been able to cope
with college classes and a technical job.

That is a real boost for me. When you look at a college, I function quite
well without antipsychotic. I can cope well with exams and stuff. The bad
thing without them is that I judge people by their surname and when
something bad happens to me I tell myself that this is because my surname
simply doesn't belong in this country and if I were somewhere else I would
be happy. I am starting to get a bit angry at the people that, in my
opinion, "belong" in this country. I am also sometimes angry at my father
and I sometimes think that he is guilty for my unhappiness. There are a few
more things that I don't like in my life, but I won't bore you with them.. I
hope antipsychotic therapy will help in my path towards happiness.

I think my doctor prescribed me antipsychotics because of this
"Risperdal may also help in treating so-called "negative symptoms"
such as social withdrawal, apathy, lack of motivation, and inability
to experience pleasure." . It is true that I am showing these
symptoms. In your is there any other antipsychotic that can help me
but without interfering with my cognitive abilities?
