| | | who's really crazy in today's world? We all know about Gelly's situation, but I'm really thinking about it for
the first time now. The way the government is behaving is totally insane. If
they think she can't work then they shouldn't delay approval of benefits,
and if they think she can then they shouldn't string her along. The whole
thing amounts to torture and is starting to make me angry.
And hers isn't the first such story I've heard. People here have suggested
that this wait-two-years-for-appeal bullshit is common practice. Do most
normos know about this? I have a hard time believing people would just
ignore it if it were widely publicized. Many might be apathetic, but some
would be motivated to help. Our big problem seems to be that we're isolated,
we don't help each other, and we don't know how to make our voice heard. If
the physically disabled can become a major political lobby why can't we? The
specific kind of thing I'm talking about is easy to show proof of and can't
be dismissed as a mere symptom by anyone with a halfway open mind. |

I had to wait two years to get on disability this time around.. I think it is
pretty standard and only getting worse with all the vets coming back from Iraq
and applying for disability. |

Gelly can work! She working right now, therefore she is NOT disable.
That 'fuckSSA' can work too, but he chooses not too. Sometimes,
people want their cake and eat too! The State is crackin' down on
people on disability because the State needs money. There only
several ways the State can generate revenue, one is to raise taxes and
"fees", two is to cut expenses, and three is to print up more money.
Remember, the Democrats are "tax and spend" and the Republicans are
"cut and spend"!

Oh, come on, Ches! You know first-hand what it's like to be forced to hold
down a job when you just can't work. And even if you're right, what's the
purpose of waiting two years to set an appeal date? Only reasons I can think
of is so that the appellant will either give up or quietly die of starvation
in an alley. The fact that the government doesn't seem to care which of
those two happens, is what makes their behaviour inhumane. Since when is a
government entitled not to give two shits about its citizens? |

Ever read the official USA definition of Communism? A government that feels it
has a responsibility for the welfare of its citizens. That is the USA

So are you saying government in the U.S. is a one-way street, where citizens
must keep commitments to the government and expect nothing in return? Sounds
bizarre to me. |

You are beginning to sound like ol' Damo the Crazy hippy!;-) yesh,
the State doesn't care if you starve to death. Gelly and Erik work
because they choose not to live on the street and starve. Canada take
care of its citzens a little bit better, but national socialistic
medical care just doesn't have a chance here.

The government isn't a person, and therefore it doesn't make any sense
to call it insane. It doesn't "think" anything. It's just a

Yes, but he's busy. Dealing with a bit of a major crisis, as he has to move
by the start of September and, on his income, can't even afford a room in a
rooming house, let alone a place big enough for all of his stuff. Plus he's
got to figure out _how_ to move his stuff. Right now he's trying to motivate
himself to submit an assisted housing application which seems to have lain
around his apartment for a week. Severe motivational problems, and I'm
seriously concerned he'll end up taking no action until he gets thrown out
into the street. But what can a guy who's 900 miles away from him, and can't
cross the border to visit him in person, do? |

I'm amazed at how blandly people seem to accept the government not having
