Default You decide

I have been reading posts and read alot about depression and lack of ability
to do things like cleaning. I have found that the only way to get out of
that is to force oneself to do what you have to in order to survive.

Living in filth is disgusting and can harm your health as well.

You might think you don't have the ability to do these things your
complaining about not being able to do. I know in fact though that if you
start somewhere by doing one thing and do it for awhile then you can pick up
another thing. Like different chores for cleaning.

Just don't think you can't because then you won't in fact be able to do
this. I have heard way too much complaining and I wonder how often you guys
are trying to do things to improve your situation. Just because your brain
chemicals are out of wack doesn't mean you can't fight to do something you
have no desire to do or no interest or no sense of achievement when you have
done something for yourself.

You have to start off with forcing yourself and I have repeatedly failed at
doing this but kept it up and I'm way better off because of it.

You have to decide to feel a certain way and if you try to smile more or
look at yourself in mirror with smile or laugh more often you will be much
better off.

Don't refute what I suggest until you give it at least a year of this. With
our illnesses things come slow but if you keep trying it's well worth it.

There is scientific evidence that forcing a smile to your face for
moderately extended periods and often and long enough will, in fact,
improve your mood. Not only does the mind influence the body, but the
body influences the mind.

All the same, it's my experience that a depressed or scattered person
often needs help to climb out of their rut.Taking that first step
without physical reinforcement right at your elbow can be very, very
difficult.

If it's so easy, why not apply your advice to losing weight?

Actually I have to do that. Like I said I am working at this step by step.
My problem with weight is I don't exercise like I should. That is in fact my
next step to work on getting more fit. )

I think you are very right. I have huge problems with getting things
done but when I do somehow force myself to start with something small
it just continues usually. It goes slowly but I feel a sense of
accomplishment when I can cross things off my list.

The problem is that sometimes I am just totally paralized and can't
seem to get that first effort to force myself to do something. I am
getting better at it sometimes, but it is very real, that paralysis. I
have anxiety and tiredness and it is like a phobia, it is very real.
But you are right, the only way out of it is to SOMEHOW force it. I
just wish I knew the answer to how to force it better sometimes when I
am having a hard time.

I wish I could force myself to smile more. That is one thing people
always say about me, that I never smile. It feels unnatural to me I
suppose. I guess it's something else I should work on forcing.

Huh. Forcing a smile. Doesn't sound fun, but it does seem to make
sense.

I know about that paralysis. I think they call it 'avolition'. I lay
in bed sometimes for hours debating it in my head... and yes even if
it is just picking up one sock off the floor, it is always the way to
start small, just that one nudge or movement toward something helps.
Good luck.

Well, each scheezer has a different variation of the condition, and among
the variations is the extent of negative symptoms. If training cured your
negative symptoms, maybe they weren't Sz based negative symptoms -but rather
some other problem from the alphabet soup of psychological conditions.

Regarding weightloss. IMHO, Akins is the thing to try for a scheezer.
However, that involves reading his book, which may be a difficult thing to
do.
