| | | Another benefit to not smoking Yes, I'm going to be on topic for a change. A couple of months ago my
GMF had to have an angioplasty. If any of you are familiar with this
procedure you know that after it's done the patient has to lie still
for several hours to make sure that clotting has occurred. Well, I
don't have a couple of hours of scintillating conversation in me so it
was newspaper reading time. Now, for a few years prior to my mother's
death I would go see her every Sunday (100 miles out of town so
something I couldn't do but on the weekends). My mom had macular
degeneration so one thing that I'd do for her during our visits was to
read the Sunday paper, any magazines that had come during the week,
any letters that needed reading. Being a heavy smoker it was very
difficult to do all this reading and it was necessary to take lots of
breaks and drink lots of whatever. You know what I mean - my voice
kept getting gravelly, giving out and whatnot. Well, it struck me as
I was reading the paper to GMF that I had no trouble. No throat
clearing, no need to slug back some water, no need to rest my voice.
How about that!!!

The benefits of no longer smoking just keep revealing themselves, one
after another after another after another....... Ain't it grand???

| | | Re: Another benefit to not smoking I gotta agree with you on that one, Sue. The first few weeks I felt I
was clearing my throat from the time I woke up to the time I went to
bed. It's slowly disappating and I do know my voice is clear than it
was.

noticed that! You sound like such a giving person. Keep the Quit!

One of the things I've noticed recently is: My singing voice is back!
Back to where it was before I started smoking a pack a day about 12
years ago that is...
(It's just me in the car, so no CD coming out soon. But I like it!)

I know I'm much better at yelling now, my lungs are so much stronger. So
that is good for helping with the intense road rage I have now that I don't
smoke and have to deal with all the pricks on my road. Nice post, sweetie!
Love you Sue!
