Default Aren't there some people here from Nova Scotia?

I ask because I've only recently heard there was such a thing as the
"Halifax Explosion".

I want to visit Canada again Montreal and Marilyn Matte wrere fun, but
there's so much more up there...), and someone told me I ought to see
Halifax, Nova Scotia, as it's particularly nice.

I found a website or two, and was wading through the usual chamber of
commerce-type stuff about trade and tourism and culture, and saw a link
titled "The Halifax Explosion". Thinking it had something to do with a large
population spurt, or an upturn in new businesses or employment, or
something, I clicked it, just for the hell of it.

WOW!! Fuck me! Unbelieveable; simply incredible...! How frightening! Why did
I never hear of this until now? It's just amazing...

So, any Halifax... ians... ers... onians ...ites -- whatever you guys in
Halifax call yourselves-- care to suggest a Must See list?

Halifax is a wonderful city...and you've never heard of the explosion
because...well...you're American. <<ducks and runs>>

If you're gonna make a trip to Halifax, add some time and see as much of
Cape Breton, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and PEI as you can. You won't
regret it.

I was (am) a big fan of the "Anne" books. Lucy Maud painted such a
beautiful description of PEI.

Actually, more Americans than you think know about the Halifax explosion,
esp. in Boston and perhaps in New England generally. Annually, either the
city of Halifax or the province of Nova Scotia (don't remember which)
donates a Christmas tree to the City of Boston that becomes the city's tree
- sort of like the tree at the White House or Rockefeller Center. This is
done in continuing thanks to Boston for sending its firefighters to Halifax.

So we are not all ignorant. Now... Halifax... that's in Mexico, right? ;-b

Lurking-a-little-less-007

(Coming-in-from-the-cold-007)

Lurking 007 - Man of Mystery - has found it difficult to keep his mouth shut
on AS3 four months, three weeks, 12 hours, 17 minutes and 57 seconds,
amounting to 4245 cigarettes, and saving him $1,007.97. He has added 2
weeks, 17 hours, 45 minutes to his fabulous, but secretive, life. He is
using his saved cash to take a cruise to HALIFAX starting June 25 and is NOT
KIDDING. (Booked yesterday, actually).

Grrr. My G-Grandfather was the captain of the Celeste Dunhill out of
Halifax.
Historically, Boston and many Maine seaports were a tight community
back then. I am an American and _seem_ to have heard all about it.

And the Pictou Lobster Festival made an interesting breakfast..

Novie Rules..Great people and a beautiful place.
SO: Is it true "Macdonald" really means "Smith"? :-)

Nova Scotian'ers call ourselves Bluenosers ( after the tall ship of course
and not because we do smurfs). I just posted a tall ships site that is
coming this summer to Maude http://www.tallshipsnovascotia.com/ships.aspx
of course there are a way more stuff to do . Go get yourself a doers and
dreamers guide http://www.destination-ns.com/forms/guide.asp (free)
we have everything from great golfing to museums,to reenactments on the
citadel with the people in full dress and firing a canyon. Of course there
are great seafood food to blueberry grunt festivals.

the explosion was felt all over NS my nana said the windows in Truro shook.
did you know we still send a huge x-mas tree down to Boston every year as a
thank you for their help?

Oh yeah we have the maritime museum where you can see pieces of the Titanic
on display and a graveyard from some of the people who were on it.

Halifuckers!

YES. JVG's BACKYARD !

Also a drive "down the south shore", a night at JvG's wilderness cottage,
a trip to see the Bay of Fundy and the amazingly large tides, Cape Breton
if you have time is nice. In Halifax itself there are some great bars
with fiddles and shit. Man I've lived here so long I don't appreciate the
cool stuff anymore.

Get the provincial government's Doers and Dreamer's Guide. It's very good!

Shakespeare By The Sea is cool... Eastern Passage for fish and chips. The
local museum of course. One Worl Cafe is fun - a new bohemian place on
Agricola Street, which by itself is funky and fun. Argyle Street on a
Friday or Saturday night.

There are festivals - Busker Festival, Tallships, JazzFest (yours truly is
playing in his samba band on Saturday:-)

Lynn Scott (Hefler) lives here too lynn.scott@ns.SPAMMENOTsympatico.ca

Cheers!

lol! Yes many of us are aware of the great linkage between Boston and
Halifax. The Village of Chester, NS has a large contingent of Mass
property owners who have been vacationing there for generations. There's a
great seafaring tradition, and in years gone by maritime commerce was a
very healthy industrial force.

Halifax is in the process of renaming Yount Street to Boston Street. It's
a fitting recognition, in addition to the treet for the help she provided
immediately after the Halifax Explosion.

Great meter, by the way!

Cheers!
