Carmen, you are doing such a super job!! I read of your problems with
tech support. The other night I came home to no Internet access due
to no dial tone. At first I thought I'd not paid my phone bill (the
check had been written but I couldn't find that it had cleared). Long
story and never mind, but I ended up trying to get a hold of a human
being at the phone company (using my cell phone which I never use) -
damn AT&T. Of course, there was no way to talk to a real person -
just press button one, press button two and give answers to that
impersonal voice thingy which I abhor. I got so damned frustrated I
started yelling in the phone, swearing, damned near through the cell
phone across the room. I never got any satisfaction but finally
figured out that my Tivo had taken over the phone line. After it was
all over I took a bath, and while relaxing in the tub it occurred to
me that not once did it even cross my mind to smoke. Wow! What a
place to be in. You'll be there, too. Be strong in your quit.
Take care, dear Carmen.

You bloody well better. I'll drive up to Canada and kick your ass if
you don't. Congratulations on almost three weeks Carmen. Now that
you're close to 3W, remember the terrible threes: 3D, 3W, 3M. Around
the third week is when you wonder if it'll EVER get over with... just
keep plodding through no matter how much you think:
- You're not ready this time
- What's the point?
- Smoking wasn't THAT bad after all
- This is never going to end, I'm going to suffer like this the rest of
my life
They're all lies. All. Once you get to the other side of the fire and
your needs and passions for smoking cool a little, you'll find yourself
feeling more confident and understanding that it all was just a lie.
We'll deal with three months when the time comes.
Be prepared, and keep going.

I for one can happily confirm all that! Tomorrow it'll be 15 - 14?
weeks of not breathing in smoke, and it didn't kill me, or drive me
insane. Bit more short tempered maybe, but then I always was; never
could suffer fools gladly and all that.
So, P Bear, go on and make that 1 month mark - I guarantee you, in 2
more months ' time, you'll be wondering, as I am, why the hell did I
ever find it necessary to set fire to dried up leaves and inhale the
smoke forty - sixty timesa day? Was I crazy? Stupid? Brainwashed?
And, finally, if I can kick the tobacco demon out of my house, after 48
years of being in his grip, well, you surely can too!
And BTW I can see from your posts that giving up nicotine is far harder
for you than it was for me, since I don't thank Gawd suffer this bipolar
thing (which I'm vague about but suspect it is clinical depression.
This is like putting lead weights on a sprinter while other runners are free
of this handicap.

Ian, I like that comparison. I will keep that in mind next time depression
hits me and I feel like I can't do it anymore. Cause a sprinter carrying
extra weight will still be able to reach the end, just has to work a bit
harder; has to go an extra mile.

Yep, you I'm afraid just have to put more effort into it than I did -
you can do it, in my estimate, and win through and deserve all the
applause you get!
my quit was - except maybe the first two weeks - surprisingly easy; for
others, it may be, it is almost impossible, everyone is different.
(By God, there's a profound statement!)
I wonder if those saddled with depression and similar conditions know
how difficult it is for those like me, who are blessed with the ability
to laugh at almost anything, not excepting myself! We live in two really
different worlds, really, and can only dimly perceive how it is in the
other one.
That's quite enough serious stuff for one afternoon.. maybe I'll post a
Sixties Reminisce and bore everyone half to death, just for the hell of it.
