Nobody around, but it's still early. I read somewhere on the
quitbuddies page that IRC is mostly abandoned by now by AS3 folks, in
favor of java chat rooms? I wonder why because for me personally, IRC
is leaps ahead.

I am willing to help if that is what is needed to liven up the IRC
chat.

A few years ago something went wrong with the silkquit room we
used on IRC. One of the regulars here opened up www.as3.info
and we moved there. Works great as long as you don't have too
many java based thinguhmuhjigs running on your system at the same
time like yahoo messenger and games. I'm very happy there really.

Only thing I don't like about it is that we used to recruit people in
silkquit chat. Not everyone popping in there was from AS3 since
on the silkquit meter there's a chat button that leads to that room
we used to chat in. SO we used to hang there and ask people to
come over to AS3 and share their quit with us. Sometimes with
great success.

For that reason alone I'd be all for a revival of the silkquit room on
IRC coz the room rooms could happily coexist if there are enough
people to fill both of them. I think that might be a small problem
though. We already often have to lure in people with free e-beers
to fill a chat room.

If you want to chat either in IRC or in the as3.info box just post a
chat request with the addy where you are so people can find you.
Call it something other than 'Chat' coz if you do it'll get lost under
other threads with the same name. There's a third way to chat. As
you prolly will have noticed by now, we post so much in AS3
some of the threads go so fast they turn into somewhat of a chat
as well. Saves ya from going in a special room. <grin> All the best,
Robin.

Great, thanks for the full picture!

What about instant messaging? Here:

ICQ: 668501
MSN: tgrebena@REMOVETHISinet.hr
AIM: crazydiamondwho
Yahoo: cdiamondwho

So there, I'm wide open :-)

You'll find a lot of people on IM. Is dangerous though, coz there
are too many fun people here so it's easy to end up chatting half
the day.

Hi Robin,

One of the things I've noticed over the past decade with chat
locations is that their popularity rises and falls in line with the
changing dynamic within the community. Seven years ago I made a
decision to provide SilkQuit Chat as a moderator-less location which
will always be available as a third place if people choose to use it.

The history of SilkQuit Chat is a long one, spanning more than 8 years
but our most stable period was when we owned and operated the chat
environment ourselves. Some of you might remember the good old days of
irc.valecam.net.

By a strange coincidence I have been working on reverting the hosting
of the SilkQuit Chat back into my control. This process began a couple
of months ago when we moved the website from a shared hosted
environment to a dedicated server. I aim to be able to restore
SilkQuit Chat to its former stable self before the end of June as well
as announce a rather exciting evolution in SilkQuit chat capabilities.

Stay tuned.

Regards,

Dave

Well irc works verry well with a screen read program for the blind. Java
chat doesn't work well at all.
