| | | Checki-in/RANT/Missed my MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM/OFHOF Okay, it's been basically a month from hell around here, and I've barely
been able to keep up with the newsgroup. And then late last week it got
worse, so I haven't been here at all in a couple of days...But I am
still here....
I missed one milestone: my 18M (MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM) or OFHOF, but when I
opened my meter a minute ago, I caught this:
Cigs not smoked: 11000
WOW! Who could have imagined....
In the mean time, I'm still terribly busy. My partner and I are working
on a fundraising benefit for a breast cancer patient. We're hosting a
scrapbooking crop with some silent auctions/raffles to help pay her
medical bills and hopefully give her an assist in raising her funds for
the Dallas 3-Day walk. I spent 6 weeks just trying to find a location
that was big enough and cheap enough to hold the event. Fricking
banquet halls wanted $5000 PLUS the cost of food. It would COST us
money to do it there! And I'm totally offended that all the
churches around here would not help us since she doesn't go to their
church! (I lie, there were two churches who were willing to let us use
it for $200, but it just didn't work out). We wound up at the Girl
Scout corporate training facility. THEY gave us the spot for FREE.
(They could teach the churches a thing or two about Christian Charity).
So that was a total headache (nightmare!) that has kept me stressing for
weeks now because it basically became a full-time job trying to find a
location. But now that is squared away and we are trying to collect
donations of raffle items. Well, here we are again that no one wants to
help us because they only help 501(c)3 orgs. We are not that. We're
just some nice people who want to help out a really nice lady because no
one else will. My partner and I pounded the pavement ALL DAY Friday,
and we got a $25 donation of product from Hobby Lobby, and a really nice
guy who worked in a Radio Shack bought a $5 gift card with his OWN
wallet. That's IT. And some of the people were DOWN RIGHT RUDE (which
I will not forget when it comes time to SHOP there!)
Yesterday, I was so steamed about the whole thing, I was tempted to
write a nasty letter and mass mail it to all the churches and those
businesses and scold them for their behavior. But I didn't. I don't
know that I could stay civil (I can be quite a bitch when you push me).
But they really do need to know how people feel about that, especially
the churches. THAT just TOTALLY offended me, and it is EXACTLY that
attitude that has kept me OUT of a church for close to 20 years now. I
could teach those hypocrits a thing or two about "love thy neighbor".

| | | Re: Checki-in/RANT/Missed my MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM/OFHOF what is a benefit crop? I understand the benefit thing but what is a crop
and does one normally pay $50 to do it?
the rest of the day seems like it would be fun.
we had a benefit dance for dad and it was just donations at the door. I
went to many places to put up fliers and since dad was a fire chief and he
used to hit up alot of stores for donations for their fire department
fundraisers he knew everyone and their dogs anyways. we came away with
enough prizes from dinner for two's to cases of motor oil. It is 2 months
today that cancer took him.
I hope you all have a lovely day and keep hitting those stores. do the
little mom-pop stores and show them a picture of your beautiful friend and
just keep talking . tell them how any donations will put to use and a people
will know where it came from.

for scrapbooking, generally used to describe when two or more
scrapbookers get together to work on their scrapbooks. Think quilting
bee, but with paper (or something like that). The term comes from
"cropping" photographs. It's a hobby art. I've been doing it for about
6 years
