Default COLD TURKEY

I'm happy to say I am one of the 78%, but they did forget one thing,
without my buddy's don't think this would have been possible.

http://health.msn.com/health-topics/...ntid=100173386

A new study by the New England Medical Journal agrees that with me!

http://content.nejm.org/cgi/content/...ct/358/21/2249

So I am here today to say thank you to all that assisted me in my
quest.

Love Lizzy

Lizzy, I'm surprized that the survey found that 78% of the people they
interview who quit used CT as it certainly does not seem to be that
high here. I have used CT previously and remember what a challenge it
was at first. Did Chantix this time and it was a walk in the park in
comparison. Still, the goal is the same regardless of how we get
there: Smobriety.

I was the worst example of a CT curmudgeon that shook my world and
everyone around me for well over ten months...
It was excruciatingly painful.

If I could give advice on a CT quit I would say:
1- Get your diet down to wholesome and organic foods.
2- Cut out white flour, white sugar, white pasta, second helpings, and
don't drink for the first 4 months.
3- Exercise, and sleep a minimum of seven hours a night
4- Tobacco education is key
5- Get support and give support
6- Don't think of the quit as being forever, just do it one day at a time.
7- Frame your mind to be positive with the glass half full.
8- Learn to breath properly.
9- Spend the savings on fabulous prizes
10- Spoil yourself rotten because you deserve it.

Hugs,
robbster

This is excellent advice. Quit cold turkey, and once I got my head on
straight it was a matter of my disconnecting habituated responses.

THat said I subscribe to any and all methods that lead to the same
end: quit. Good luck! Stephanie

I also believe that anything that works is okay. I did CT, and it was
one of the hardest things I've ever done, but Chantix wasn't around 4
years ago; if it was, I should/would have done it. It seems to be very
effective for most folks. Whatever works - good luck to all, and
congratulations to everyone still quit.

Great list Robbster! Even a week short of entering the tubs, I found
things in it that I added to my mental "to do " list!

quitters

Karen

Hi Steph - congrats on the NYC meet

I believe that whatever works and as always, different strokes for
different folks.
I know a guy who has chewed N.Gum for well over seven years now. I know
another guy who no longer smokes but carries a lone ciggy around all day
- gross as it may be, he uses it to simulate smoking.

Thanks Karen -

Look at you! Almost two months quit - you should be very proud.

You will find as time moves onward that you keep adding more and more to
your life list. The learning curve never ceases to amaze me. Quitting
smoking is and was an incredible journey. I find that gratitude (I'm
still ever so thankful to have had the opportunity to have seen the big
tobacco light) is the most important component of this quit. I wake up
every morning thankful, hopeful, and always looking for new opportunity
to embrace in life. Peeking in on AS3 always makes me smile!

hugs,
robbster

Well, that is the point, had it not been for all the support I don't
think I could have made CT either.

About the list:
Marvie and I did down quite a few beers in the beginning of my quit,
but I also drank gallons of water and cranberry juice, that cleaned
out my system. Also, I did not leave the house for almost 2 weeks.

With the money saved I spoiled myself rotten, even though I could have
used the money to make repairs on the house, but hey we only live
once? and the world is coming to an end in 2012 anyhow, so I sure
want to make it till then without worrying about lung cancer a.and
without that bitter taste in my mouth in the morning. At least we are
able to taste again and I'm anxiously waiting for my first garden
tomato, green bean and eggplant, I also planted some snow peas.
YUMMMMMMMMY
And when it get's cold again I will plant salads and ocra and bock joy
and who knows - no chemicals just all healthy wholesome food.

I'm just sooooo happy I don't smoke anymore!
Love Lizzy
