Default CRAP, TRIGGERS ARE EVERYWHERE!!!!!!

Today is my 3rd day on Chantix and thanks to everyone who have been
supportive.....it truly means alot. OK, tomorrow is when I start 2
pills a day. I am paying attention to triggers and that is
depressing......I smoke if the dog gets up, just give me a reason. My
quit date is Monday (hopefully sooner) and I hope these damn things
make me sick to think about. Anyway, been thinking about things to
replace smoking when the dreaded triggers come down upon me. I have
been reading anything and I am getting some good ideas. Maybe my
house will sparkle all on the same day (I can never seem to finish the
job). I have just got to remember that those pesky triggers will not
be with me forever.

Yes, they are everywhere. And no, they won't be with you forever. I
know that's hard to imagine now, but they really won't.

I don't know about what your plans are when a craving hits, but gum,
deep breaths and cold water were my friends. Still are, actually,
though not as often.

Hey, thanks for the tidbits.....gum is a not go....several caps
wouldn't like it.....but the deep breaths and cold water sound
better. I just went and got sugar free lifesavers and they are very
tart and sour. I will experiment before Monday and come up with
more..maybe make a list. Yeah, I am a list person. I'm freakin
thinkin weight gain but I was freakin 25 years ago over the same
reason, so, as we know there is no good time to quit. Life is stress
and having to smoke just adds to the stress. I am definitely into
simplifing my life now and smoking cannot be a part of it. Isn't it
strange that my whole life I always tried to eat healthy, take care of
myself, etc. but yet I smoked????? What was I thinking??

See ya,
Theresa

I know. I was the same way. Maybe we thought that was going to make up
for smoking or something? Silly us.

As far as the weight gain, I was worried about it too, but I have
really tried to make some harmless substitutes in my eating habits.
I'm drinking diet soda or water instead of my beloved Cokes. I'm
eating baby carrots until they come out my ears. I'm singlehandedly
supporting Lean Cuisine to take to work.

I won't lie and say I haven't put on any weight, but I've been able to
keep it at about five pounds. When it cools off here a little bit, I'm
going to hopefully start walking (at least that's what I tell myself)
and try to get it back off.

And anyway, a few extra pounds don't matter right now. Quitting is
what matters. You can worry about the rest when you've got a handle on
that.

Theresa! I expect you will start to see the effects of the Chantix
today as you step up to the twice a day dosing. I expect you will
find that smoking will take on more and more of a surreal feeling as
you get to Day 8 and make the quit. It does sound like you are doing
your homework on smobriety and reading and posting here is primal, in
my opinion. When you clean your place after you have quit smoking you
will start to see the benefits of smobriety that much more and it is a
great payback.

I was thinking about taking up the baby carrot habit.
Do folks look at you funny when they come out of your ears?

You are right...there are triggers everywhere! And it's great that you
are able to identify them now before you have quit. All you need to do
now is develop coping strategies for getting you through a craving.
There are plenty out there....NRT, long deep breaths, ice cold water,
walking, snacking (ideally on something other than chocolate) and my
personal favourite....CITRUS!! It's something I was told about years
ago in a previous quit (thanks BinnieBee) and it works brilliantly.
Every time you have a craving, have a glass of orange juice or snack on
some type of citrus fruit. It really does work.

Also...brushing your teeth has worked for me this time. And, as an
added bonus, your teeth get lovely and white after years of staining.

Lots of love

Theresa,

They are everywhere... but that doesn't mean that *all* of those
triggers will bother you. For me, the ones that bugged the shit out of
me were the morning smoke with coffee, the getting-out-of-work smoke(s)
on the way home, and the after dinner smoke. The rest turned out to be
trivial enough that I could just blow right past them. The key for me
was to STAY BUSY. Doesn't matter at what, just stay busy doing SOMETHING.

I have not smoked since 7/8/2007 2:30 PM. That's 60 days! I have not
used any nicotine at all since 9/03/2007.
