Default Craving dream...

Weird dreams are to be expected, or so I've read and so are craving
dreams but this just takes the biscuit: dreaming about lozenges
when I've not used them and don't even know if they're even
available here. There were 4mg ones, 10mg and a whopping 40mg(!) in
this dream... they were available here in .nl and they came in
white and a sort of reddish shade with an unlikely fruit flavour.

Now why dream that? What's the point of starting nicotine
replacement 2 weeks in? <gah!> And to think I woke up feeling
hopeful and optimistic!

Vashti! Yes dreaming about smoking is common for us quitters but you
do take the cake dreaming about lozenges. You are right. It's
illogicial to start using a NRT two weeks into smobriety as the shit
is already out of your system. Dreams certainly can be amusing to say
the least.

At least you were dreaming about LOZENGES and not SMOKING!

I used to dream about smoking but now in my dreams everyone is smoking
but me. I guess that's a step in the right direction??

Oh well, my doc wouldn't have approved of them either. I must have
seen an add on tv or something... I haven't been watching tv much
lately or keeping up with news and yesterday was the first time
I've spent time watching tv for any period of time.

Yup, weird, entertaining and sometimes disconcerting. Hey, but it's
a warning sign to let me know I have to keep on my toes, right?

Yup, LOL! I've been trying to visualise myself smoking and can't do
it anymore (yay!) so I guess the next best thing for my subconcious
to grab ahold of was those lozenges.

Ooh yes! Absolutely... next step could be dreaming that people are
arguing with the smokers, telling 'em to take it outside. *Then*
your dreams can declare a smoking ban and you'll be dreaming clear
air all the way! ;-)

Ditto on the tv thing, although I just finished watching Grizzly Man
on Discovery now. I got hit by a crave so strong I just had to comply!
Dry throat, nauseating coughing, I just HAD to get up to get a drink.
<bg>

I've also been looking a little deeper into Champix. Donno why, I
don't intend to quit again anytime soon. But I did find out that
people like "us" were excluded from testing, nor have they been tested
with any other SSRI than welbutrin, nor with benzo's, yet they dare to
claim no drug interaction is to be expected *rolls eyes*

Quoted from http://whyquit.com/pr/121606.html :

"Excluded from participation were those suffering from cardiovascular
disease, alcohol abuse, major depression, *panic disorder*, systolic
blood pressure greater than 150 or diastolic pressure greater than 95,
a history of cancer, a body mass index (calculated as weight in
kilograms divided by height in meters squared) of less than 15 or
higher than 38; weight less than 45kg, those with a "clinically
significant medical disease," those over age 75 or younger than age
18, those smoking fewer than 10 cigarettes per day, and those known to
have recently relapsed during NRT or Zyban/Wellbutrin quitting
attempts."

That's very interesting, Inky. So I guess they don't really know how
it would interact with you, do they? Hmmm.
Well, you're on the right track without it, although I guess you could
consider it as a last resort.

Vashti ... I am waiting on my dream legislature to pass a smoke-free
law.

The nicodemon obviously knows you very well and after evaluating your
resolution to quit, concluded there is no use to make you dream about
the "real thing" and instead made you dream of those. Like saying, Hey
Vashti come on, we are old buddies, you can at least grant me
*those*!!!
Smile at him seductively, let him come close, then swing your foot you
know where!

It makes clinical sense to have the folks in a clinical trial as
'normal' as possible so that the test isn't skewed by the factors that
were outlined by this trial. But in real life you realize that people
will use the product who are part of the excluded groups. I certain
would not have qualified for the tests since I DO use Wellbutrim. I
thought when I started that it would have helped me stop smoking then,
but my head wasn't ready for it. But since I was ready now it worked.

Someone please tell me it is harmles if Mike slips into psychologist
mode? <g>

If you read the article, you see that NRT tests showed a whopping up
to 44% success rate in clinical studies. Now chantix coughs up a 28%
success rate. In the real world, success rate of NRT went down to 7%!!
Makes you wonder how far it will drop for Chantix.

I suppose it does anger me that it are the most vulnerable people who
are misslead. Many people who are stuggling with mental or physical
problems will never be "ready" and they think it's their cure,
spending hundreds of dollars for this "magic cure" ontop of their
already expensive addiction.

Being ready to quit is the key. The only good thing I can see of
chantix is that it mimics the effects of nicotine without actually
putting this hideous drug in your system. But then, are you gonna be
addicted to varenicline at the end? When I read some people get
prescriptions for a whole year, all I can think is "Ohhhh my.... a
whole year in chronic withdrawal.." No tnx. :P
