Lozenges, gum or patch before cigs.
DO NOT touch a cigarette, whatever you do!!!!
Meet that friend in a no-smoking area.
They can go take smoke breaks if they have to.
Keep asking for help.

Sweet Becky,
Those craving go away. And I hated it when people
told me that.
Take a bath with epsom salts, Sip on a 1/4 teaspoon of
vinegar. Have some tea on the porch; In the freezing rain, especially.
Invent something a cat would like. Prepare a cold turkey sandwich
and share it with anything. Nicotine has taken hold of brain receptors.
It takes a while to get it to function normally. The brain can
trick itself. Diversion helps - tons!
Your rant was great. And this Buttfuck Missouri judge
gives you a 9. I would normally go higher - in a bad mood
I guess.

poison or you fall back to earth and land in doggie-doo... YOU CAN DO

Becky, you're doing everything right. Yell, scream, do whatever you feel
like doing, except sucking on a cancer stick. Eat, sleep, drink, post every
two minutes. Your meter looks great and it is growing. You are on the very
top of the hill. Which way do you wanna go? It's just as easy to go
forward as it is to go backeards. Follow me, honey. I am going forward <g>

Hang on, Becky. You're going to make it.

Keep these posts - print them. Carry them with you. Read these even
before you pop another Altoid. Don't even think about buying nicotine
lozenges.

Breaking the nicotine addiction is difficult, but I promise you it is
so much easier than knowing your kids may have to watch as you slowly
die, gasping for breath. My quit was almost a year old when I watched
my mother spend the last month of her life in a hospital, then nursing
home bed. Even the slightest movement caused her to gasp for breath
she just couldn't get in or out. During those moments her eyes - and
entire face - filled with terror and there was not a thing anyone
could do. Not one damn thing.

I hope to all that's good and holy that my son doesn't have to watch
me die like that.

Keep fighting the good fight, Becky. You can do this. Always
remember how much the first few days of a quit suck and always tell
youself you NEVER want to go through this shit again.

Becky, the cravings will pass, whether you give in to them or not.
Just don't smoke this minute, or even second, if you must. Allow
yourself this one minute, then see how it goes the next minute. You
_can_ do this, just do not smoke the next minute!

Inky,

Free since 22/06/07. No nicotine for 6 months, 3 weeks, 3 hours, 50
minutes and 59 seconds. That's 6124 stinkers not smoked, saving EURO
649,36. Reclaiming 3 weeks, 6 hours, 20 minutes.

Days off work and lack of nicotine replacement get you every time.
Take your meds, follow a nicotine replacement (patch seems to work for
you) program, and have planned activities for your days off work.
Is there a "buddy" or "sponsor" you could use there or here?

Becky, I am on a couple of meds that I will probably be on for life.
Fine with me. They keep me alive. If I needed NRT to keep me alive I
would gladly take it. I would not see it as a failure. Do what you
have to in order to make it through this journey. And you *will* make
it

Becky you are just going to have to commit to yourself that it is
acceptable to be uncomfortable for a while. That's all a crave is -
discomfort. And you've done many things in your life that are
momentarily uncomfortable (sewing a Halloween costume at midnight,
baking 36 cupcakes for a bake sale, endured ignorant customers). I
personally think that quitting smoking is damned uncomfortable, and
the benefits don't show up for a while (I didn't get all 'free' and
'grateful' all of a sudden, I was sullen and deprived a fair amount of
the time. If you feel sullen and deprived then feel it, just don't
smoke over it.) I'll tell you as someone 11 years sober, I really
question the kindness of your AA smoking buddy. When I was smoking I
would not smoke around those struggling to quit. Good luck! Stephanie

Becky - You can do this if you want to. It wasn't easy for any of us.
Just don't let the nicodemon win.

Hi Stephanie!
I really cant blame her. It was my choice to not ask her not to smoke. Im
responsible for my actions. To be honest,if I had not attempted cold turkey
too prematurly and blown it, being around her would not have bothered me at
all.well mayby a little but not excruciating. I am back to the lozenges. I
will wean from them gradually when the time is right.

I agree. If I have to use them for years then so be it. I know a lady who
quit 16 years ago and still uses the gum. that may be pushing it a
little, but i also know someone who quit smoking and used the inhalers for
over 6 years.looks like I will be one of those people.

As long as you continue to make excuses (wth is "attempted cold turkey
too prematurely"?) you will continue to fail. You're kidding yourself
when you think "being around her would not have bothered me at
all.well mayby a little but not excruciating."

I think only a newly quit person that was dead could tolerate being
around a smoker. Face the facts that you're just going to have to ask
those around you to help you in whatever way they can. If that means
you ask them to NOT smoke around you then ask them.

You haven't yet accepted responsibility for your decisions to give in
to craves. You WRITE that you have, but your actions prove otherwise.
You must really enjoy the very early parts of a quit. You keep doing
it.

Put the fucking stink sticks down. For good.
