Default This day in history

Hello all you quitters!

Its Valentines day so you ought to do something to celebrate. I was
poking around on the web this AM and found a site where you could see
what things happened on any day in history. Fun!

So on February 14 , 1859, Oregon became the 33rd state in the Union
to be joined on the same day in 1912 by Arizona (the 48th state). In 1920
The League of Women Voters was founded. In 1929 Al Capone's gang killed
rival gang members in the St. Valentine's Day massacre. (Well, duh! Why
do you think they call it the St. Valentine's day massacre!) In1989
Iran's Ayatollah Khomeini issued a fatwa, calling for the death of
Salman Rushdie, author of The Satanic Verses. Ten years later, in 1999,
Dave Westendorf quit smoking!

Hey, wait a minute! That's me. I'm Dave Westendorf. Lets go check the
meter! Here's what it says.
Congratulations, Dave. You've been smober for 9Y 0M 0W 0D 6H 3Mns
and saved $11155.90.

Wow! Whoo hoo! Next year it'll be a decade. That is of course if I live
another year. I can't promise you that I'll be alive ... but I can
promise I won't be back on cigarettes.

Now go out and celebrate. Chocolate! I want a Hershey bar.
