Default Dosage of Champis

I have finally managed to pick up my Champis tablets from the chemist (no
one seem to know much about the product around here)
and what the doctor has prescribed is one lot of 56 film coated 0.5 mg
tablets to be taken as follows: one a day for the first three
days and then two a day.

In the leaflet contained in the box the instructions on the doses seem to be
different, a starter pack which is consistent with what I've been prescribed
but from day 8 to 14 and over, the dose should be increased to 2X 1mg.
tablets a day.

Can't get at the doctor just now, in fact I wasn't able to discuss the
prescription with him in the first place, and I am wandering whether he has
suggested this dose to avoid bad side effects, I am on my 60s and already
taking some medications.

I'd like to know if any of you have been taking the same amount as above.
Taking this dose will affect my succes in stop smoking?

Many thanks in advance.

E

Default Re: Dosage of Champis

Hi E,

Mine came in a box with the 4 weeks dose's in four different boxes. It
said something on the box about first month starter kit. That sounds
like what you got too

If it's like mine, the first week's box will be all white pills
(.5mg). When I got into the second week it was all blue pills (1mg).
The packaging lays out the pills in a day-to-day format.

If this is not what you got, the doc has you on an adjusted routine.
It might be worth a call to the doc's office if you have any
questions. I'm sure they would rather hear from you before you start
flopping around on the floor.

Chantix works by blocking the effects of nicotine in the brain. As you
move closer to your quit day, you'll see that you get less and less
from the cigs. The increase seems to be more of a safety net plan,
though I don't know this for sure. Seems to me that my quit was easier
to start than previous attempts. Being 4 days into it though, I feel
it just a normal cold turkey quit I've done before. So, I'm thinking
that the doses are increased so that if you so slip, you won't get the
nicotine rush/reinforcement making it easier to get back up on your
horse. After all, every quit fails by smoking again. Seems that
Chantix has taking this as its target so that we have a fighting
chance when we do slip. Knock on wood, I haven't slipped yet, though I
know all too well to never say never.

Anyway, glad to see you here and posting questions. Don't be a
stranger. Jump right in with both feet. This sandbox belongs to all of
us. While you are on the Chantix you might have additional questions.
Many of us are on it and will be glad to answer any questions.

See ya around...

Gary W.

Four days, 14 hours, 20 minutes and 24 seconds. 91 cigarettes not
smoked, saving $21.84. Life saved: 7 hours, 35 minutes.

What I have is one box containing 56 (Varenicicline 0.50 mg tabs)
they are white, that is all.

I have taken one after my evening meal this evening and shall do so for
three days then
go on the two a day as indicated on the instruction and in fact what you
have done.
In the meantime I'll make sure to see or talk to the doctor, he is very good
and therefore very busy.
He will tell me why he has prescribed this dosage. I live in the UK and no
chemists in my area, not even the large Boots in town
had the tablets, apparently is not so long since one could get a
prescription for them.

Did you stop smoking the same day that you started taking the tablets?

So, I'm thinking

I hope that it is going to work well for you. I've been there so many times
and what makes me mad is that
usually I get what I want no matter the cost e.g energy, time etc. But when
it comes to smoking
all changes and fail miserably letting myself and my loved ones down.
So, I am going to try again as I have a couple of months free from work and
I am fortuned, there are no obbligations
at home, I can do more or less what I want. Ideal situation, let us see what
happens.

Yeah, this sound different than what I got. Does it say Chantix on the
box or just the generic name of Varenicicline? It may be marketed in
different packages for different countries. I'm in the States.

Maybe they are out of the 1mg doses and you'll go on 4 per day (2
pills AM, 2 pills PM)

>Did you stop smoking the same day that you started taking the tablets?

No, I didn't, per the instructions. My instructions said to keep
smoking as usual for the first week. On the 8th day, I quit smoking.

>I hope that it is going to work well for you.

Well, as with most all quits I've had, things are not quite as rosey
now as they were just before stopping smoking. I'm convinced I'm going
to make this one work, so I'm just doing my time, like an inmate
waiting for his release date.

Observation: Forget everything you just said. Pity serves almost no
positive function in making us better and stronger people. You deserve
to be treated better than that. That's all history. Today you're here.
Today you are letting no one down.

That's a good plan and one that many of us wish we could afford.

No prob'lemo. I'm sure we'll talk more over the coming days. Keep
posting and sharing.

Hi Eleanora! Welcome to AS3. I, too, used Chantix for this quit and
found it to be the easiest quit I ever experienced. Obviously each of
us process quitting differently. But to your question, I started
'doing the math' and it's obvious if you have 56 .5mg pills then you
only have half the month's dosing. I definitely would contact your
doctor before you are done with the first week to find out if he did
intend for you to take the lower dosage. I definitely want to hear as
well how you're doing as this stuff is new and we are the first
generation of quitters in real time to use the stuff. Post here often
and do read the FAQs which are at www.quitbuddies.org, our 'unofficial
website' which is a real gem. We are all here for each other!
