your quit. Getting smober is our focus albeit we also share snippets
of our lives from time to time. To get started, a visit to www.quitbuddies.org
is in order. It's our unofficial website and is full of useful
information. Our FAQs are there along with many other resources on
quitting. We also have pix of many of us and Jef., the webmasters
zany sense of humour to boot.
Do write back and tell us something about yourself, Are you using any
quitaide for this event? There are many ways to work thorough the
cravings and urges we have, especially at first. I always find taking
a deep breathe, holding it, and then slowly releasing it helped a
lot. I found cinnamon altoids to be a lifesaver. They blasted my
mouth with such a great strong taste the thought of putting smoke in
there just gagged me.

Good Start Chris !! Well done Nice one !! The trick is to keep reading
and posting here and keep learning. You can then break those chains
and on to freedom.
STOPPING SMOKING IS WITHOUT DOUBT THE SINGLE BEST THING YOU CAN DO FOR
YOURSELF
There is of course the thing with two bunny girls/Chippendale's and a
bath full of treacle but I can only tell the first part of that story
after one week Chris...so stick with it.

I have just under a month and this group has been a tremendous help to

Are you using the gum or patches or anything? I used (am still using)
the nicotine gum to help me.

I haven't smoked since 7/8/2007 2:30 PM. That's 4 Weeks, 1 Day, 5 hours
and 12 minutes. The Tobacco Company and the taxman didn't get $146.07 of
my money. They can take their 584 sickarettes and shove 'em right up...
Anyway, I get to live an extra 2 Days and 40 minutes.

We've all made attempts. Some more than others.
I've attempted probably 20 times in 38 yrs of smoking. One time lasted
for three years (mid 1980's)...fell off the wagon. Think I felt dumb,
then? Yep. <sigh>
This last quit was a good one.
I made up my mind, picked a date, asked the Doctor for help
(buproprion), and have been looking at my smoky life in the rearview
mirror ever since.
I just passed a milestone, and it's good to have little milestones
along the way, so I'm glad to see you've gotcher meter runnin'.
Of course you feel better. But the Nico-Demon is not going to make it
all skittles and beer for you. He's going to throw some junk at you to
get you off track. But you're ready for him this time....ain'tcha.
Rock and Roll....here's my meter.
You'll be fine...just hang out here...read and post, read and post.

Every single person here had a first post, and a first day quit. You're
off to a great start. Don't think about unsuccessful attempts in the past -
we've all been there. They don't count. Don't look at them and think this
time will be no different, or it won't.
Attitude is everything. You don't smoke. PERIOD. If there are triggers that
make you want to smoke, change habits so you can avoid as many of them as
possible.
And remember you DON'T SMOKE. PERIOD.
If you have a crave, ride it out. You will crave whether or not you smoke, so
lighting up because of a crave just won't do anything to end them. If you
stop smoking long enough, they go away.
You'll get a lot of good advice and links from the others in here - check out
anything they give you, the info is great, is very useful. Read some of the
milestone posts too, most of us post some pretty good posts at anniversary
dates.
The info you'll find, the posts you'll read, they are all good ammunition to
help with the fight. But nothing is more important than your determination to
not smoke.
If you're using NRT (nicotine replacement therapy I think it stands for),
great. If you're not, and you start having a tough time fighting the craves,
don't feel as if you're cheating by using the patch, lozenges, gum, whatever.
There is NO CHICKENSHIT WAY to quit - any method that you use that works is
valid. Some people feel that it's a "better" quit if they go cold turkey.
Works for some, not for others. If you have to use a lozenge, use it. Use
whatever you have to use to quit, because the only thing that matters in this
battle is the outcome - not the path taken to get there.
Congratulations for taking the first step. Polish that meter and show it some
love once in a while, and it'll take good care of you.
I quit those damn smokes 3 Years, 3 Weeks, 4 Days, 22 hours, 6 minutes and 12
seconds ago, giving my new baby an additional 3 Months, 3 Weeks, 3 Days, 18
hours and 15 minutes of having a father in this life, by avoiding the use of
33,627 evil nicotine delivery devices that would have raped me out of

I quit those damn smokes 3 Years, 3 Weeks, 4 Days, 22 hours, 6 minutes and 12
seconds ago, giving my new baby an additional 3 Months, 3 Weeks, 3 Days, 18
hours and 15 minutes of having a father in this life, by avoiding the use of
33,627 evil nicotine delivery devices that would have raped me out of
$5,884.82.

I'm glad you found AS3. I found it by accident a couple weeks
after I quit just about when I was ready to cave.
Welcome and good luck. I know luck doesn't have anything
to do with it. But I feel lucky as hell to be nicotene free
for over 3 years.

I quit CT too and from my experience, the first 2 days are the
absolute hell, third day is a little better, but then every day it
gets a little easier. By day 10 I had no real cravings, just triggers
and thoughts!
