I am the proud owner of 12 years 2 months 2 weeks 1 day.

I have recently been back in touch with my half-sister Nancy who was
briefly part of this happy crowd back at the beginning. She dropped
out because it was close to Christmas and she was having some
difficulty with her teenaged daughter. Now she has become fascinated
with Ancestry.com and is getting me interested too. She has found out
the dates of my mother's birth and death. She died of TB in 1940, I
knew it had to be around that time because my Aunt Freida took me and
my cousin Lucille to the 1939 NYC World's Fair where there was a man
who had a machine that would turn a penny into a souvenier of the
fair. I begged my aunt to let me get one, which she did and then I
gave it to her to take to my mother in the hospital. I am trying to
carry on with the ancestry search but its rather complicated with all
kinds of earlier connections. Still, it's fun, in a weird way.

She also told me that she had quit smoking but didn't say for how
long. I congratulated her, but did not press her for details. She is
about 10 years younger than me.

Joyce, combing the ancestral material online. It seems to have
records of everyone's heritage. Mostly, the periodic U.S. Census
records, which, by the way, is coming along this year.

Learning of one's heritage can be interesting, Joyce. My mom's family
tree was researched by one of my aunts many years ago but I know next
to nothing on my father's side. I have thought at times it could be
interesting to find out what is out there about them. I bet they were
all horse thieves... <G>

Mike, I think stealing horses was about as common long ago as stealing
cars is today. Both Phillip's mother and my grandmother tried to join
the DAR but a search of their backgrounds revealed that one was a
horse thief and the other was a deserter from the army. I can't
remember which was which. Most of what my sister had dug up is on our
father's side. Her mother's people came from Sicily and my mother's
family came from Germany. My uncle Willie tried to teach me to sing
Ach, du leiber Augstine in German. I told Wolfgang that and he said
it was a drinking song. Yesterday I was scrolling down the list of
our ancestors that she had found. There are 491 of them. And as I
scrolled away, I suddenly recognized a name: Jubal Early. Click!
Years ago, in high school I think, the history teacher was teaching us
about the Civil War and there was a General Jubal Anderson Early, on
the Confederate side. Well, Anderson is another name that recurs often
in our family tree along with Early. This stuff can get addictive.
I'm afraid I am letting her do all the heavy lifting, but she seems to
enjoy it.

Hey, kiddo, congarats on being so close to 3 years. I knew you could
do it. Please alert the gnomes; they really have to give you a gnome
party.

Hugs, Joyce

I do agree, Joyce, that horse thieving is as wretched as stealing cars
or BIKES... <G> Where are the thumb hangers when you need them?
Relatives and ancestors are always an odd lot no matter how one looks
at them. You just gotta put up with them because they are one thing
there is no return for.
