Is this the crave that will suck you back into smoking?
You always have these huge, gigantic craves Becky...

Let's just hope it will disappear by typing it away???

Becky, you want a cigarette, that is good to admit. Don't go driving
yourself crazy by arguing with yourself. But try to keep your focus.
Yes you want a cigarette, just one, if you could. But you _KNOW_ you
can't just have 1. One will mean a 2 pack a day addcition again to
you. One will mean you won't know when, if ever, you will muster up
the will and faith to try quit again.
Keep your focus! You really, really _REALLY_ want to be free! 1 = all
Hang in there, cravings will pass, wether you smoke or not. |

Don't let this crave get out of control.
Hoping for the crave to disappear on it's own isn't going to work, work to

You should know by now that hoping your craves will POOF! disappear
won't happen. You're expecting unrealistic things to happen and that
won't help your quit and your attitude about it.
Remember that the craves get fewer and farther between and diminish in
intensity and one day WILL be gone, but ONLY if you maintain your
quit.
You CAN do this.

dwell on it and let your mind go there. Do something else with your

Hi Becky,
I hope that you put your plans in gear to prevent relapse. Use all
the tools you have learned to NOT SMOKE. Don't go to the store to get
cigarettes. Don't get a lighter. Don't go to the smoking friend for
a cigarette. Don't put a cigarette in your mouth! NOW...that we got
THAT out of the way...
Just don't smoke, Becky. Sounds simplistic. Sounds...too easy. But,
that is what it takes. It doesn't need to be more complex than
that.
I wonder about these craves that you are experiencing Becky. Are they NICOTINE withdrawal craves? Had you dropped back on your NRT? Are
you using the NRT as prescribed?
Are these craves anxiety? and a cigarette would provide relief for the
anxiety? I just don't understand how these craves are getting to
you like they do. I KNOW craves can be difficult to contend with,
but, work through it. They seldom last for very long. Sometimes you
just have to work through it. Experience it, work through it...deep
breathe, get up and walk around for a bit...find a distraction...read
here. Post here. Find something that must be done at your job to
keep you away from thoughts of smoking. Anything.
I know you will get through this. Don't focus on the
crave...experience it...work through it...let it go. Then...focus on
the good things about being a non-smoker. And come back here and let
us know how it is going for you. These craves will pass!

And have you started to think about what brought the crave on? Did
something trigger it? Stress at work? woke up late and you're going to
be late for work? Found a bill that wasn't paid? Got a phone call from
one of your smoke buddies? SOMETHING brings on the crave. It's not
withdrawal. You should be done with that by now. So it's
psychological. If you know what's causing the trigger, you'll be able
to develop some effective strategies to beat it.

Of course you want A cigarette...many of us would enjoy A cigarette
(a lot of us wouldn't at this stage also). It's all the other
cigarettes that follow that first one - as well as the slavery -
that we don't ever want again.
You've probably already killed this crave and and you'll kill every
other one that follows by simply not acting upon them and putting
one foot in front of the other as you march towards total freedom.

A big crave from out of nowhere? Yeah? So what? Big deal. Tell it to fuck
off.
You know exactly what to do: Same thing you've *been* doing for 18 days or
more.
Do not come back here and post about how you had a shitty day at work and
caved in.
That's not acceptable. Not even *close* to being a proper reason.
If it *does* happen, have the decency to make up a fantastic story
supporting your very goddam good reason for smoking. Maybe include a huge,
natural disaster of some sort, time travel, and perhaps pirates. Evil

eventually goes away. If you do give into a crave, all you do is set up
the next crave. All you have to do is break out of the
need-feed-need-feed cycle of addiction. It's as simple (and as
difficult) as that.
Be curious. Wonder what it will feel like when that miracle happens,
because it always happens when a person stays smokefree long enough.
There will be that "holy shit, I no longer miss smoking and the
cravings!" moment. Sometimes it's a gradual thing, sometimes it's a
lightning bolt. I wondered how it would feel...and then I found out.
It was, and still is, an awesome feeling. It's a feeling I desire for
every ex-smoker.
