| | | Happy 2008 everyone! I havent been around much. I made my 6 months milestone a special
Chrismas gift to myself. Got some shit headed my way the last month of
this year. After 1st getting the reassurance my daughter aint
autistic, they came around and said they do see signs of autism, after
close observation. Mmmkay, that was a huge blow in the face. But we're
not done yet.. My son (nearing puberty) has ADHD? How nice they dumped
us 6 years ago because "I saw things that weren't there".. What about
my hubby? Gah.. they want him tested for autism as well because "they
see signs of autism in him as well".. Ohh goody then I'm the only sane
person here? Nawww.. I'm still a fruitcake..
I know, this comes across as very depressive. Maybe I am, or maybe I
just don't know what to expect or do right now. But the past 6 months
have been "challenging", softly put. I know newyears is a time that
many make the resolution to quit, or *give up* smoking. Many of those
attempts are cold turkey. Lately chantix seems to be a new hype as
well (and I truely hope peole will read the new warning labels) but
the majority of people won't even make it through the 1st day. One of
the biggest excuses used is "this probably isn't a good time to
quit" . Sadly, this excuse often is handed to them by loved ones or
even by health care professionals. Even my own GP told me, after
roughly 3 weeks quit, that it might not be a good time for me to quit
(doh!)
For all you new quitters, if you stub your toe today, accidentally cut
yourself shaving, burn your eggs, topple over the Christmas tree and
blow your fuse, yell at your loved ones, kick your cat/dog because
they cross your path, remember, for each and every misshap there will
be someone who has to hear their loved one is dying of cancer,
heartfailure, has emphysema or has to hear this diagnose for
themselves. Ask yourself, if this is not a good time to quit, then
when is?
When you quit smoking, you are not giving up anything! You are giving
yourself a very precious gift. A gift of health. You are reclaiming
the life you were supposed to be living, a life with no paper wrapped
tobacco stick, with a 2000c hot burning tip, dangling from your lips,
every 20 - 30 minutes.
Happy and healthy 2008 everyone.

Your post resonates with me and your last two paragraphs are truly
keepers. Newbies, read them and incorporate them into your quit.

Inky, you're a hero.
Congrats on 6 months (pretty unbelievable, huh?)

Thanks Lynn My daughter is a very smart girl too, just emotionally
she falls behind. It's starting to show more and more. Right now, we
just want answers, we're hanging on somewhere in limbo, not knowing
what to do or who to turn to. I'm graetful I'm finally getting help
with houseworks now tho. My place has been a mess for years, but it is
starting to look like a livable place again.
Ontop of that, I really enjoy cleanin without my water starting to
look like coffee. ;-)

Why do you always manage to make me blush or bring a tear to my
eye?
I just can't stress enough that smoking a cigarette will not help
anyone solve anything. At best, it only adds another stress factor to
your life, at worst it triggers a stroke or heart attack.
