Has anyone heard of this??
A few years back I heard somewhere that there was a product, perhaps
not available in the US, that you can spray in the mouth like a breath
freshener, but makes the taste of smoke unpalatable? I've really been
trying to totally quit, but still smoking 4 or 5 in the evening, and
perhaps one during the day. I don't have a nic addition, just a
really bad evening habit/crutch. I've been camping, and did not bring
smokes and almost forgot I smoke, not one craving. But when I'm home
after the kids go to bed, I enjoy sitting down outside and having a
smoke(s) with my wife. She smokes about as much as I do, and really
does not want to quit right now (she wont, don't even go there now).
I know 5 or 6 per day may seem like no big deal to some, but I really
want to just be DONE with this habit. Anyway, has anyone heard of
such a product? It sounds like it could be a "magic bullet" for my
situation.
One more thing:
Two nights ago I had a dream that I got lung cancer and my 8yo got
really mad at me because I didn't quit. It was one of those dreams
that seem real when you are having it. Freaky!

Re: Has anyone heard of this??
I haven't heard of that. It sounds interesting, though.
It's hard to quit when a spouse smokes, I know, and it's something you
do together. Maybe you could try cutting one out a day? I don't know.
I suck at telling others how to do it, because quitting is such a
personal thing.
Keep reading and posting here, though. You never know ...

Re: Has anyone heard of this??
IF (big IF) you don't have a "nic addition" and it's just "a really
bad evening habit/crutch", you should have no problem replacing the
"habit/crutch" with something else. Popcorn, nuts, seeds, some other
snack. But seeing as you've been here asking for help more than
once, maybe admitting you have an addiction you can't handle on your
own will be the first step in being rid of it. I hope you hang around
and skip those few each day. I've got an 8 year old too. He would be
mighty upset losing his dad to lung cancer. I don't like that freaky
dream at all.

Re: Has anyone heard of this??
Hi Jakalope,
I haven't heard of a spray, but maybe you ought to try Zyban, which is a
pill (also known as Wellbutrin). My experience on it was that it sort of
made the cigarettes uninteresting and untasty, and you didn't get the
"relaxing" buzz off of them either. It's prescription only, and it's also
an antidepressant, so you might want to use it advisedly and only in
consultation with a doctor.
Maybe you are not really addicted, but you may want to consider that you may
be in denial that you are not addicted. Addiction is such an interesting
phenomenon in how it makes one think up excuses in order to justify one's
actions. (I've had a friend who had a several-times-a-day crystal meth
habit. He didn't think he was addicted either until he landed in prison and
got rehabbed.) See the "junkie thinking" FAQ, which is posted here
http://www.quitbuddies.org/JunkieThinking.html. You may see youself in
there.
Maybe you don't see yourself in the FAQ, and let's assume you're not
addicted, then you wouldn't want to use a patch, the gum, the lozenge or the
inhaler, which are all nicotine replacement therapies. I believe the pill
Chantix somehow rewires the addicted part of your brain, so that may not be
appropriate (though other people here would be more expert on that) so that
leaves you with Cold Turkey, Zyban, hypnosis, acupuncture (and the like).
In any event, you're going to have to break the habits associated with
smoking and learn to relax some other way, without them, in the evening.
Just having the cigs taste bad to you will not, in my humble opinion, change
that. The first one you ever smoked tasted awful, didn't it? But you
smoked it anyway (as we all did). The second one tasted better, and after a
while the taste didn't matter any more. So maybe the hypnosis or
acupuncture would help you relax and break these habits?
Best,
Jaime
I have achieved nine months, two days, 16 hours, 29 minutes and 47 seconds,
of smoke-free living (and, with it, rather aggressive driving). This amounts
to 8270 cigarettes not smoked, saving $1,963.97, and adding 4 weeks, 17
hours, 10 minutes to my fabulous life.

Silver salt solutions such as silver nitrate or colloidal silver.
There is some kind of reaction woth compounds in tobacco smoke that
would knock a buzzard off a **** wagon. These things have been around
for decades and decades, but do not work well, because the aversion
reaction makes people stop using the silver compound, not the tobacco.

Thanks to all that replied. Addition or not, I don't really know.
Either way the situation is the same. If I could just get from 9:30
until about 11:00 I could cruse this quit thing. I've had a few quits
that last about 3 days, the days are a piece of cake. For example, I
have not even wanted a smoke today, but tonight, oh baby, different
story. I actually am out of the habit of smoking during the day, not
even in the car on the way to work (inconceivable a year ago). It's
like I'm a non-smoker until about 9 or 10 pm, pretty strange. If I
could just take something to make smoking much, much less enjoyable, I
think I could get out of my evening habit too. I'll Google Silver
salt solutions, silver nitrate and colloidal silver. As far as not
working that well, I have not seen anything that "Works Great" to help
you quit. If I were rich I could hire a couple goons to follow me
around and kick my ass when I light up, but until then, I guess I'll
be using self discipline and, yes, I'll probable Google "Silver salt
solutions such as silver nitrate or colloidal silver" before you get
done reading this.
Thanks to all,
I'll be around,
John

Re: Has anyone heard of this??
John, I used Chantix this time around and found that it made the quit
so easy for me that I nearly thought it was unreal. I was used to
quits that made me chew the walls or climb them and bite off people's
head for breakfast most of the time. If you go to www.chantix.com it
will explain more about it than I can write here. It is a good option
to consider. I tried the zyban [wellbutrin] but it did not do the
trick of making smoking just downright disgusting to me, which was
what I needed to quit. It is not cheap and most insurance won't cover
it, but in the long run even with as few sickerettes as you say you
smoke, you will get that back in savings soon enough. Do read the
FAQs which are at www.quitbuddies.org as there is a ton of information
about smoking in them and the site has many other pages of information
on smobriety as well as links to other useful web pages. Since you
say the smoking really is only an issue from 9:30pm until bedtime,
some of David's suggestions might be very helpful to give you
something to do rather than obsess on smoking. You can do this as we
all are.

Re: Has anyone heard of this??
Hi John welcome to AS3,
you know deep down there is no magic bullet right? I just posted the FAQ"s
might be something in there that will help you along the way but you have to
want to quit and you will need to find somthing else to do after the kids go
to bed to relax.
Instead of smoking outside with your wife try something you associate with
smoking maybe hot chocolate instead of coffee,or take up star watching ( I
tried to stay up last night to watch the northern lights but the sound of
coyotes drove me in) just find things that smoking is not part of your
routine and soon it won't be a big deal.
Good luck

Re: Has anyone heard of this??
If you are dreaming about lung cancer then you probably have a fear
about what smoking is doing to you.
If you read FlatIronMike's post - he had a house guest that smoked.
Mike was such an example that when his friend left to head back home his
friend decided to give quitting a shot. Mike was a wonderful testament
to his friend.
You can do this

You are absolutely correct. I just turned 39, and it's time to quit.
I think its because you never really know how susceptible you are to
different diseases. My wife has been going to the beach and spending
time outside in the sun with very little sunscreen most of her life.
She has skin like a 20 year old and a nice tan. I have spent most of
my limited Sun time in covered in SPF 50, and try to keep covered.
Guess who gets the skin cancer.....Yep, me. Not the "bad" kind, they
just cut it off and recommended that I come back once a year to get a
check over (but you can't do that with a lung). But still. I guess
it just makes me think. Some people can smoke without having severe
health issues, and some people can't. I don't want a doctor to inform
me that I'm the latter. Thanks for all the support. You guys rock!
