| | | Hello Friends Hi everybody. I got back from Iowa today, after a visit to see Alex
graduate from Iowa State University. I wish I can describe the feelings
that I have, but I just can't. saying I was proud, is like saying there is
going to be a typhoon and we might get a little wet. There were 4500
kids..err..young men graduating this year. It was an incredible seen. My
little boy is a Construction Engineer now. Signed his contract with an
engineering company in Chicago, and he is going to be a Project Manager. We
celebrated, we laughed and we cried. Our emotions got the best of us. It
was a time that I will never forget, and neither will Alex. My tears are
rolling down my cheeks as I am typing.
Now, Mark is going to be a Junior this coming year, and he will graduate in
May of 2010. What happened to my little kids? they were just playing Tee
Ball not long ago!!!
Thank you for allowing me to share the experience with you. I missed you
all. I have a lot of reading to go through and I see Rob has done a great
job with the "Thought for Today" , and I am wondering if he will continue
carrying the torch and posting the thoughts.
It's good to be home. I miss R O L E X.......

Welcome home, AZ.
Your emotions have certainly been all over the map this past week or
so, haven't they?
I'm sorry you and I didn't get to chat or meet for coffee or
something. You flew in to the "wrong" side of the state.
Now that Alex will be Chicago and Mark in Ames perhaps we could
someday meeting somewhere in the middle. Say, Clinton, Iowa??
Welcome back!

good way to describe the type of joy you experienced this past

your son's graduation. I hope his career is rewarding for him.
Be well, I do enjoy your Thoughts for the Day a LOT!

| | | Re: Hello Friends I am really sorry about not meeting. Alex had a very rigid schedule for
everything that needed to be done, and I did not know that I had to meet
with his teachers individually. That was a great experience. So, needless
to say, I flew to Des Moines, drove to Ames, and on the 3rd day I was
driving back to the Airport coming home. I hate to say coming home, because
home ain't here, but...
You and I have a date in May of 2010

AZ, I can empathize entirely with you in your hopes and love for your
sons. I have two sons too. They are now in their mid-forties, but I
have followed them in all their ups and downs through the years. My
elder son Chris was married (for the second time) on March 15. I am
sure this one will last. He is a lawyer. My younger son Evan, after
several unfortunate work experiences, is now settled in Chicago where
he teaches graduate level forensic psychology. I remember fondly how
much they wanted me to stop smoking. They would stick needles in my
ciggie packs and soak them in water.
I am a doting mother, of course. But that's what mothers do. And
fathers too. You made me smile and nod my head and even brought a
tear or two tof recognition to my eyes.

Maybe you missed the subject...the key word was "Substitute" :-) I
can't handle the pressure of doing it full time, but I'll step in if
needed. Welcome back.

Not necessary to describe it to me. I've been there twice. When my
son graduated last year I had tears streaming down my face. I seemed
to be the only one around me who was so emotional.
I'm hoping to go through this again in two years.

Bless his heart for loving something practical. My oldest daughter
did (Business accounting), but my son is still a server (which is what
he did while working his way through school). Political Science is
not sellable. He told me the other day that he will probably be
hitting me up for the money to take the class to prepare for the LSAT.

At my desk I have a picture of my kids when they were about 3 to 11.
As much as I enjoy my children as they are now I sure do miss them
when they were that age. Sometimes I ache to hold them.

They grow to be young men and even when they grow older we still think of
them as our little kids.
The main think is that they remain closed and share parts of their life with
us.
I am very glad for you that the graduation day went well. The fact that Alex
has been offered such a contract
seems to me as a good sign of his character and commitment shown in his
study. So, yes you are right to be proud of him,
and you are fortunate to be HIS FATHER.
Also,May 2010 is not so far away!
Hugs.
