| | | HooBoy! Seven Years? How is that possible?? Well by jumpin' jeebuz I never though this day would arrive - well, not
on new years 2001 anyway, yet here we are in 2008 and I'm a seven year
veteran of a successful AS3 supported quit. Thank you, thank you, thank
you, AS3 and all the increcible support that pours out of the hearts and
minds of the great folks here! In particular my buddy Jef., and Lane
Baldwin were early pillars of wisdom and motivation and piles o' laffs
too.
You newbies who wonder why and old timer would pop back in; I know what
you're thinking. You wonder if after 7 years some guy still haunts AS3
it must be hell. He must still think about smoking and must be having a
hard time.
Do I still think about smoking? You bet you ass I do - every day when I
walk past the tobacco hags and phlem boyz outside my office I praise the
high heavens that I found the Junkie Thinking list. I thank
miscellaneous deities for Zyban. I bow doen before the gods of clean air
and strong lungs.
Do I think about smoking fondly? FUCK NO! I can't stand being around
cigarette smoke. I hate it! I have ZERO interest in smoking and only
wish I had found AS3 a few years earlier, especially now as I see so
many friends, some former smokers, battling cancer. Some have died, and
I really, truly, do not want to miss one day of my life to as useless
and activity as smoking.
Do I feel better? HELL YES! I walk 3 kilometers every day, each way back
and forth to work. (That's 14 degrees in milligrams for those of you in
the US) I go to the gym 3 times a week and do a half hour cardio and a
half hour on weights afterward. My blood pressure is fantastic and I
almost never get a cough. Circulation is vastly better and I feel really
fantastic.
How about all that money saved, you know, the $16,300? Hahaha... NEXT!
You newbies take heed. You can and will be here yourselves one day. You
CAN do it!!! Read everything. Become totally immersed in it. Take
control!!!
Just don't have the next one. Never, ever touch anything even remotely
connected to smoking; no cigarettes, cigars or pipes. No ashrays, no
matches and no lighters. If you do it's RADIOACTIVE. You'll get a
serious and excrutiating burn, instantly! DON'T TOUCH!!! Instead jam
your hands in your pockets, or cross your arms and put your hands in
your armpits. Turn away.
Also you can NEVER, EVER have any cigarette smoke again. You are a
JUNKIE. Not one! Nothing... nada... zip. None whatsoever - you hear
me???!!!
YOU CAN DO IT!!!! BE STRONG!!!!
So anyway - that's it for now. I'll pop back in and read responses but
probably won't reply to all. I will read them however and will take all
the good karma I can get.
Take care my quitting friends!
Peace and Love from John

What a great post!!! Congratulations on 7 years. I love your

you back it up with a healthy life style in other respects (Look who's

I will take no credit for turning you into a Commie, in the process, but
thanks for the tip of the hat. ;^)
This is a real treat to see! The place is constantly awash with new
quitters-- as it jolly well should be-- and it's hard to keep up with them
all.
I do, however, keep an eye out for my old pals. My peers from the early days
always have a special place in my heart. It's like parochial school or the
military, or prison-- nobody's background matters, and we're in all the same
miserable bind. All that's important is what you bring to the wretched
environment we all find ourselves in at the moment.
Good work, John. You brought a lot of class and humor and taste and fun to
the party.
It might've been a helluva lot duller if you hadn't shown up here, back when
there was such a dearth of amusement to be had.
You could've spent the extra couple of dollars for enough funny hats to go
around, though.
Would it have killed you?
Jef.
