Default I was called selfish last night

And I want to cry. Misunderstanding between myself and my long
distance relationship "boyfriend"? I am not selfish. It is hard to
communicate with someone sometimes when you are separated by 2100
miles. I won't go into details but it hurts not to be understood. It
hurts even more when you can't communicate with someone directly by
looking into their eyes when you are speaking to one another. ~sign~

Long distance relationships are so hard. I've had them before, too.
You are NOT selfish. I hope you guys are able to work things out. Love

Well, I don't want to rain on the parade, but "long-distance
relatioships" are doomed. Sorry, sweetie.

Well, shoot. When will you get to see him? How often do you get to
see him? OK, OK that's details. You weren't going to get into
details. Anyway, I'm sorry that you're misunderstood. I'm sure you
are really selfish.

Sometimes they are. Sometimes they are not. For instance:

My first post coming back to AS3 after skulking for a year:
http://groups.google.com/group/alt.s...6bb50405fcac9?

One of the people that responded to that post:
http://groups.google.com/group/alt.s...a432068cbdeea?

A little under a year later:
http://groups.google.com/group/alt.s...a?dmode=source

And that same person's response:
http://groups.google.com/group/alt.s...1?dmode=source

A little under a month after that:
http://groups.google.com/group/alt.s...1?dmode=source

And her response:
http://groups.google.com/group/alt.s...8?dmode=source

Thursday, August 16th, 2001 was my last day of work in Montreal. My
household goods had already been shipped by freight to California. On
Sunday, August 19th, 2001, I flew out from Montreal to San Francisco for
the last time. Diane and I were married in Leo J. Ryan Park in Foster
City, California the following Sunday, the 26th. The sky was bluer than
I had ever seen it before. We were married by the lagoon and the water
twinkled with the light from a Sun that had never been, and has never
been since, so bright or warm. My family and hers... my friends and
hers... (including Tammy from this group)... saw the legal binding of a
2500 mile long-distance relationship that had started on this group.
And we're not the only ones. Summer (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada) and Andy
(England) met on this group and got married a couple of years after we
did. In a little over a month from now, Diane and I will have been
married seven years. We live in the foothills of the Sierras in
California on a one-third acre lot with three dogs named Bear, Charley,
and Pug. We both have good jobs and enjoy what we do. That is
incredible to me. It's nothing short of miraculous for a man who has
consistently refused to take responsibility for anything in his life,
and who had always preferred to play the part of the lone wolf. In all
fairness and honesty though, I don't love her as much as I did during
those heady days when we met and courted on this group. I love her
more. I can't begin to describe how much more. She is everything to me
and my eyes are floating with the very thought of it as I write this post.

"long-distance relatioships are doomed" ?

I think not. As long as something you want is more important than what
you have... As long as you are willing to sacrifice something of value
for a promise... As long as you choose to control your life rather than
have it be controlled... As long as you hope... ANYTHING is possible.
That goes for smoking as well as long-distance relationships. And I
am the proof.

Momo, the distance is cruel. Have you let him know that you are hurt?
It's said, "never go to bed with problems you haven't discussed". They
tend to accumulate. HUGS and I wish you two a warm, understanding and
constructive conversation!

not always. Mine worked out great. We met in Germany when hubby was on
vacation. He asked me if I wanted to go for a coffee, At first I didn't
understand what he was asking, so I thought he was asking where to find a
coffee shop, which is not that easy to find in Germany, not like here one on
every corner. Oh well we ended up in a nice coffee shop and communicated
whit hands, eyes and feeds LOL, --- which just proves love does not needs
words. I may should mention that he did not speak German and I did not speak
English.

We had a great time while he was in Germany. I think I fell in love with
him. There was something about him . But eventually every vacation ends
and he had to go back to Canada and I put it aside as just another affair
believing I never would see him again and cried. But it wasn't just an
affair. It was more... We wrote back and forth, I always had to find someone
helping me translating his letter (so much for privacy , talked on the
phone (me with learning English and an accent), lots of misunderstanding,
some arguments, lots of fun, laughed a lot, missed each other like hell. And
than and one day he ask me if I want him to live with me and I said yes. We
lived two years in Germany and than we came to Canada. We are celebrating
our 14 Anniversary tomorrow. I did not regret a single day.

talk about misunderstanding one time he called me "naive" I translated it as
being "stupid" and was so upset.

so yeah long distance relationship can work as mine shows.

hope you were able to solve the misunderstanding. A long distance
relationship surely is more complicated cause they are also feelings of
missing each other involved which makes one more sensitive. But they can
work out great as any other relationship would.

Distance does not matter - love, trust and understanding doesn't care about
distance. Some partners have a much longer distance even so they live under
the same roof.

For me... it was that 4000-line ode of love that Jef wrote back in 2000
after he had returned from the Brookfield Zoo in Chicago, where he was
caught in mid-dalliance with a warthog named Elizabeth. Ah...those
heady days of youthful unbridled passion when a man and an adoring
quadruped, both festooned with Cupid's arrows, could gallop willy-nilly
through the underbrush in playful chase, not caring about the gaping
bystanders... frolicking in the mudholes... squealing with delight as
they cavorted around the food trough... And that quiet knowing gaze from
brown eyes into gray as the moon arose over the Illinois horizon... how
could one not be moved? I was enchanted and entranced... Now THERE was
a romantic post...

> Thank you for sharing all of that.

I always like telling the story because I think our society had turned a
corner a while back with the advent of the net and people no longer have
to be speaking verbally to a person in order to carry on a conversation
with instant responses. We met without physical preconditions or
prejudices. We met each other's souls before we met each other's
hearts. I think that's important. Take care.

Awwww Eddie (and Diane), I was here when that happened and it was so much
fun to watch your love unfolding. I still remember it with much fondness.

You are so right Carmen!! What a sweet thing to say. It is soo true
too.
Absolutely wonderful story Otter. It gives me much hope along with
Carmen's. You are all so great in giving me such positive feedback.
And Tihomer,
I honestly spoke with him about this and explained my hurt and he
apologized and said he was very wrong and was sorry he hurt me. It is
so true that we have connected as souls before anything else and I
feel that much stronger because of it. We will be meeting at the end
of August for the first time.
Thank you all so much.
